upon arrival we (party of 2) were greeted and sat down immediately. the waitress gave us water in these 4 small plastic cups so that if we needed refills later then we would drink the extras first. later a diff waiter came and said why did we get those small cups so he gave us full sized ones instead. lol
got 2x boat noodles, raw laab, papaya & Mango smoothie.
boat noodles were okay. i would go somewhere else nxt time. we were told the $5 promo means they come in small sizes but we were ok with that. even then the size was just right for us overall.
raw laab was okay. the papaya (lao style) was really good & spicy though, I liked it.
service was friendly.
However, no one greeted us when we entered. There were 2 couples before us, waiting already.
The wait wasn’t long which was a good thing. We were seated closest to the entrance. Didn’t mind it at first until after we’re done eating, while packing my leftovers their carpet company came to remove the old door mat and replace it with a new one right next to our table. Again, thankfully, we were already done eating otherwise all the dirt and dust could have flew into our food. Would definitely recommend removing this table.
We were given small plastic cups of water first from the waitress and then the owner himself came with straws and regular cups of water for us. We waited for about 10mins before getting our order taken. No one came to check on us or ask how was the food. We were literally given 2 napkins and our water was never refilled.
We order most of their $5 menu food items.
From the menu it did list only chicken option for the fried rice and pad Thai.
Pad Thai was hard and chewy. Seasoning wasn’t to my liking more on the sour side. I’ve always had pad Thai with peanuts on the side and bean sprouts. No peanuts were offered, bean sprouts were already mixed in with the Pad Thai when brought out. 1/5
Fried rice was not even close to your typical fried rice. I didn’t taste any extra seasonings. Texture of the rice was there. Just not the seasonings or the color. 1/5.
Papaya was decent. I like the spice level though for others it may have been too spicy. More on the Thai style. 3/5
Pork laab did not have enough rice powder seasoning. Not dry, which was a good! Sticky rice was fresh. 2.5/5
Pork belly was good. Has a nice crisp, regular jasmine rice. Simple & basic typical Hmong pork belly. The meat is a little dry but not hard. 4/5
Sausage was also very good. I’ll say I like this best because it’s more authentic for a Hmong cuisine. Served with regular jasmine rice. 5/5.
Hmong pepper that came with the pork belly and sausage, don’t expect much. Salty and not spicy.
Ordered the Pork Boat Noodle. Very fragrant but definitely your typical, aromatic and herbal, pork pho-not “boat style”. I did love the flavor but it’s not boat. It was extremely salty and I asked for chili vinegar but they don’t have that condiment so I asked for lime, and needed at least four wedges to balance the saltiness. It did the job but it was so salty. The base broth was great, just overworked andnot sure if there’s actually pork blood because it’s thin. There’s no tender meat chunks, just pork slices, fried pork belly, pork rinds.
They do have the Kapik and chili so ask for that if you like it like that! Quantity to Value? Portioned slightly on the smaller scale.
If I was in the area, sure I’d go back. If I’m craving for Boat style, I’d head somewhere else. However, their pho base is good.
Firstly, their dining area is very small, when we were seated we had our order taken before we received our water.
We ordered chicken wings, red chicken curry, and papaya.
We didn’t receive the pepper that went with the wings, as shown in the photo in the menu. We had to ask for something that should be included like sauce for egg rolls and spring rolls. The papaya was decent as the papaya was soft as if it had been mashed and mixed too long. The red curry was a 3/5.
We never received a water re-fills as servers walked by numerous times, never checking in on us or other tables. Most likely wouldn’t come back.
The chicken wings tasted dry and hard like it’s been sitting in the warmer all day. It wasn’t cooked when ordered. Very nice of the waiter to have them fry new ones. The newly fried batch was hot and juicy like it should be. Also seem like it was fried in old oil that you can smell and taste on the food. Wings has no flavor. I like to go support hmong businesses but almost all the time it’s disappointing.
I would have given 5 stars, but they got two of our orders wrong and it seems like the communication was a bit off. The Pad Thai and the laab were good; however, the fish was too sweet and the Hmong sausage was too salty. A lot of the food came out at different times, so some of us were eating while others were still waiting. So since they didn’t have food we shared with them.
Lastly, we ordered Pad Thai with shrimp, and it came out with chicken. It wasn’t a great experience like I was hoping for.
$10 worth of food.
Food: Flavorful and a Bang for your buck.
If you are a papaya person, I recommend ordering “spicy (x amount of your desired peppers), sweet, dark). That way you always get it the way you want it.
