I’ve been getting the spicy pork bulgogi box because the bang for the buck is phenomenal and the pork is just the right amount of spicy for me. Last night was snowing and I thought I wanted kimchi jjigae, but when I got there I realized they had mul nangmyeon on the menu, which in the states is often only served in the summer because it’s a cold dish – if it’s served at all. I was excited because it’s my favorite and ordered that for dine-in and the kimchi jjigae for take out for the next day. When the mul nangmyeon was served the daughter made sure I was familiar with the dish so I wouldn’t dose myself with a lethal amount of horseradish sauce which was sweet. The mom didn’t realize I’d been warned and also came to tell me. She also shared with me that it’s on the menu during the winter because it is actually traditionally a winter dish and it’s one of her favorites too, so why limit it seasonally? The interaction was kind and warm and made me extra excited to eat her cooking.
In general I have yet to be disappointed in anything here. The banchan is always fresh and they’re generous with it.
It’s a good place to eat with friends and family, I’ve always been with one other person, but it’s also a quiet and relaxed enough atmosphere that I think it’d be nice to bring a book or study material by yourself – they have a decent cafe beverage menu if you don’t want to have a full meal while doing so.
Before the food even arrived, it was nice to see an older Korean woman making all the food…. Always a good sign. Lol. Plus the kitchen looked spotless and the restaurant is extremely clean.
Seems like a family owned establishment- which I really appreciate….and you can tell their heart is in it. Service was extremely polite and helpful.
The food all tasted like you visited your korean mom’s kitchen. The banchan was quite good, the Mandu guk is comfort in a bowl, bibi naengmyeon was delicious!
If you’re looking for good Korean food- this place is doing it right and is absolutely worth a visit. This place has a winning formula!
UPDATE:
Every time I have visited, the meals are consistently delicious, staff are extremely welcoming, and their coffees and matcha latte are excellent. A truly great restaurant, if you’re craving Korean!
They also now offer mul naengmyeon- the only place in Rochester, that does! One of my favorite dishes- so happy they’re offering it!
My favorite part of the visit is that they definitely didn’t skimp out on the ingredients, as many do. The food had all the right veggies and meat just like how they do in Korea.
A feature of this restaurant was its selection of unique handcrafted drinks, like jollypong frappe which was my favorite. I will definitely be a regular to try the rest of their menu and follow them on instagram.
Recommendations:
Korean pancakes
Boneless fried chicken
Jollypong frappe
Yogurt smoothie
Shrimp fried rice
Spicy stir fried squid
The food took awhile to come out but we did not mind as the food was delectable and we could tell everything was made with love. The ingredients seemed really fresh, and the staff was very nice and welcoming. Honestly, nothing could’ve been better!
10/10! will be coming back for sure! 🙂
edit –
Just wanted to leave another review since my return to Dosiiroc Cafe. This is now my favorite place to eat in Rochester. After trying several different menu items and meeting more of the staff (as well as the owner), I cannot recommend this place enough. The customer service, the food/drinks, and the atmosphere together create such a wonderful experience. I am so grateful for Dosiiroc 🙂
