I just briefly want to start off with saying that the service here is immaculate! You are greeted warmly coming in, and you are seated in a very beautiful setting. My host was very kind, and she made a very beautiful blend of aromatic tea, I started off with a beautiful miso soup that was freshly made in house. It definitely warmed me up on a cold windy day. Sam the head chef made immaculate pieces of sushi. I really enjoyed the eel sushi so much that I definitely ordered more. Over all the whole experience was beautiful and all the food exploded in your mouth with every bite just feeling like home. I will definitely be coming here soon. And I can’t wait to try out more items!!!

This place is a hidden gem in the south of albuquerque!
Food: 5/5
Service: 4/5

Went in for dinner. No one was dining inside beside us, but I noticed he had multiple orders getting picked up for takeout.
Then I realized the owner was working alone, served our table, cashed out takeout orders, and was the cook! He had a happy demeanor through all of it and was so kind, but he definitely needed the help to keep up, which is why he lost a star. They also look like they used to offer sushi but don’t offer it more.
We ordered multiple plates, and they all came out hot and soooo tasty. Each had their own their unique flavor and quality of the protein is great! All plates come in sharing size, so come hungry. Must try the crab cheech wontons!

Kind of a long review because I really want this place to do better as it’s amazing food that no one seems to know about. If you want the TL:DR, scroll to the end.

This used to be a Japanese sushi restaurant, but is now only serves Chinese. I’m Asian, so I’m usually very hesitant when I see mixed Asian decor as it usually means it’s a white dude selling “fusion,” so I avoided this place every time I drove past it in the South Valley. However, my wife said since it’s one of the few Asian restaurants here, we should at least try it and was happily surprised.

There is one man, the owner, who works here. He pleasantly takes orders, cooks the food, serves you, and is the cashier. So, when you go, please be patient as the food is absolutely worth the wait. If you’d rather get your food and go, you can place an online order.

My wife and I got the egg drop soup, egg rolls, vegetable lo mein, chicken broccoli, and Mongolian beef. The egg drop soup was honestly mid. It was sweet and had corn, which I personally don’t love. The egg rolls were also just okay, but what blew me away was how good the main dishes were.

The chicken and broccoli was incredible. The chicken was perfectly juicy and tender. After being full, my wife couldn’t stop opening the container and grabbing one more piece of chicken.

The Mongolian beef was also cooked to perfection. It blew me away. I didn’t know how he got beef to be so crispy but succulent in the middle. The vegetables were perfectly charred in the wok while maintaining that savory crunch.

The lo mein did not disappoint either, and the noodles were nice and soft while still being chewy. This might sound weird, but the rice was cooked really well. One of the ways I judge Asian restaurants that serve rice is by the quality in which they cook it because it means they care about the food from the bottom up. It’s a really easy thing to make, but also easy to screw up and serve mushy, especially in large quantities.

TL:DR – My rec: Order online for pick up, skip the appetizers, and go straight for the main dishes. Get any of the entrees with white rice and pair it with an order of lo mein. You now have food for 2 people or for yourself with leftovers all for under $30.

3/2023: NEW OWNER/MGMT

Restaurant is located off of Rio Bravo and Isleta (across the street from Little Anita’s and near Bank of America). Plenty of parking spots are available.

Happy Asian Restaurant was not busy at my time of visit at 4p so I had time to look things over. I was greeted by Lexie, who was exceptionally friendly. She informed me that the restaurant had a new owner and asked if I liked the new concept. Lexie also asked if I needed to know about any ingredients that were in anything that I wanted to order and that it could be altered. Another friendly gentleman also assisted Lexie while I was there and seemed to be a great team.

After reviewing the menu (pics attached), I ordered the pepper steak and made an ingredient change. To Go container came out within 5 – 7 mins. It was heavy! The food was tasty and hot.

I will go back and try a different dish just to keep my food choices interesting.

If I could give 10 stars I would. Happy Asian Cuisine is the best Chinese food in town even better than Chens! The Shrimp Lo main had tons of Shrimp. The Mongolian combo had Beef Chicken and shrimp and was excellent. Very fresh perfectly seasoned we will definitely be back!

Visit in Summer of 2023: Greeted warmly the afternoon we went. The same gentleman that greeted us was the server, cook and cashier. Food was all sub par. Not fresh tasting. It was minimally different from one plate to another. We spent close to $40 for 2 entrees and 2 glasses of ice water. The decor was very dated. The place looked dingy and dark. Once again the gentleman that helped us was very friendly but you could tell he had absolutely no employees helping him. This place may be permanently closed or closing soon?

We get seated at a table and see the projected image displaying the name of the former restaurant on the Interior wall. The place was kind of dead. We then read the the badly misspelled menus to figure out what we wanted. I ask if they have any combo meals & I’m told that they don’t have combos. That’s very unfortunate because that’s what most people want. We ordered a few items and they weren’t very good.

As a matter of fact, our stomachs were upset shortly after eating this food. So in short, we most likely will not be back. They need to update their menu and maybe proofread it next time & get some combos to possibly please the masses.

My son and I were happy that this place opened so close to our location. You can dine in. But it turned out to be a very unhappy situation. They gave us a menu and never came to our table to take our order. one person passed us, they looked our way and kept going. Then 3 different employees looked at us but never stopped to take our order. We waited and waited and there was no one that came to our table. They acted busy but they were not. I was so dissatisfied the place was empty as you will see in the pictures. There was no reason for them not to take our order! I couldn’t believe how these people treat their customers it’s awful I will never go there again. I would rather go 10 miles down the road than to stop in this place again, not friendly at all. I give it no stars.

My granddaughter still wanted to try this place, so we went and ate there today. It was a lot more pleasant, and the service was well improved. She had the Super California Roll. I had the Scorpion Roll. The food was delicious, glad to finally taste it. They have a sauce called eel sauce. It has the consistency of gravy, meaning thick like gravy; it tastes like teriyaki but sweeter and not salty; it was absolutely delicious. I will give from 0 stars to 3. What I really liked was my Scorpion Roll was shaped like a Scorpion, awesome.

Initially, we were sketched out by this place at its usually empty, and we were the only ones there. However, the food was pretty good. Szechuan chicken and fried rice were good, the orange chicken and the lo mein were delicious and so were the steamed dumplings. Most definitely coming back to try their other dishes as they’re on of the only few Asian cuisine restaurants in the South Valley. Its an underrated place and I wish them more business. Our server was really friendly and nice. The only reason why I’m not giving a full 5 stars is it’s definitely not a high end restaurant but definitely a better choice than Panda. They also no longer serve sushi.

Also, I’d like to mention afterwards we didn’t feel too groggy or bloated, usually sauces and oils make us feel like that afterwards.

For a steamed dumpling appetizer (6 pieces), orange chicken + lo mein, Szechuan chicken + fried rice, and jasmine tea, came out to $40, so about $20 per person. Not too bad. Definitely returning.
