The atmosphere and vibes are grown & sexy. The music was on point. We were immediately seated when we arrived for reservations. The server was really attentive and made really good cocktail recommendations. The wagyu steak was delicious, the whipped ricotta was just perfect. Overall a really great experience from the service to the food and drinks. I’ll be back!

After a day of celebration of our courthouse wedding, my wife and I wanted something intimate for us to celebrate privately. We came across The Maddox and WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED! The decor and aesthetic of the restaurant is AMAZING. We loved the detail and sleek look. We were lucky to have Debora as our server and she was amazing as well. Very friendly, personable and just good energy. The food… DELICIOUS ! Phenomenal service, food and vibe. We definitely plan on returning. Loved the vegan menu

For a place that just opened the service and experience was great! They definitely have everything down packed. The atmosphere is very modern and chic with an Asian restaurant attached to it. Who doesn’t love options? I sat at the bar so had a limited menu but I ordered the waygu meatballs which melts in your mouth and is very flavorful. I then ordered the short rib pasta and was surprised that the short ribs were in chunks and not shredded, shredded would have definitely brought out the flavor more. Couldn’t resist dessert and got cookies with a cookie dough espresso martini and it was a great combo! I will be back for a sit down to explore their full menu and the Asian restaurant next door. P.s. sitting at the bar on a Saturday night isn’t ideal place to eat as people tend to hover over you standing at the bar. They do have tables they are first come first serve, only the bar menu is served at this seating as well.

Trendy new restaurant with dark decor and upbeat music. My husband and I Enjoyed the atmosphere. We ordered cocktails, whipped ricotta, lamb pistachio crusted lamb chops, and roasted beet carpaccio salad, and toffee cake for dessert. The food was good, nothing that blew us away but decent. The ricotta would have been better if it wasn’t quite so cold and the toffee cake was pretty dry on the inside. Overall I would give it another shot and try a steak entree.

Absolutely love the aesthetics of this restaurant. Clean, spacious and exquisite decor. Sky was very lovely and the food was delicious. Overall vibe was great. I ordered a well done house burger and it was a little too charred, overpowered the overall taste of the burger. My date ordered the chicken sandwich 10/10. I would definitely go back and there is a parking garage right across ( super convenient).

Our experience was awesome and I can still taste those wagyu meatballs! We ordered so many things that I can barely recall, but in brief we dined on the aged steak, lamb chop, oysters, bacon strips, chopped salad, salmon, octopus, wagyu meatballs, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and cream of spinach in addition to a few drinks that were strong enough to hit the spot. The chef continuously came over to check on us and ask about our meal. Our waiter was pleasant and on point. The flavors and portions of the food were delicious! Only complaint is that my lamb chop was incredibly salty. Other than that we’ll definitely revisit! And there’s convenient parking across the street.

I had a really great evening at The Maddox! I went with a group of girlfriends and we tried a variety of appetizers and entrees! The Maddox also has a Japanese restaurant on the other side called the Musuko, while the Maddox is traditional American, so you have variety to choose from. We started off with a round of drinks. We had the “Dirty Talk” and that one was my favorite! We tried the “Saint and Sinners” which was more of a thicker drink because it contains some blackberry in it. We also tried the “Smoke and Mirrors” and the “Emotional Damage” which was another favorite. We ordered a dozen of the West Coast oysters and a dozen of the East Coast oysters. They were both delicious but I definitely preferred the West Coast as they were a bit more meatier. We also ordered the Waygu meatballs and an order of the Hot Honey Crispy Calamari. Both appetizers were delicious! As an entrée I had the pistachio crusted lamb chops. They were cooked well, but I didn’t love that my sweet potato mash came out cold, but our server ensured to rectify but serving a new order of the sweet potato mash. Our server was really accommodating and checked in on us throughout our time dining. It was a calm environment, not loud or overcrowded which I could appreciate. I had a really nice experience and would definitely go again!

A friend of mine and I decided to get drinks and food from this restaurant. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted and sat at the bar. The restaurant was gorgeous. Joey was our bartender, and he was amazing. I started with the lemon drop martini, and Joey hooked it up! For my meal, I got the bang bang cauliflower, and it was ok. I wish it was a little more crisp. My friend enjoyed her drink and the fries. All in all we had a good experience.

I have to break down this review to be as fair as possible in giving overall 3 stars.
Looks – Yes, the ambiance is cool. You can tell there was a lot of thought and detail that went into the overall design of this restaurant. We immediately moved tables because the AC was dripping onto the table and the menu was wet as clear indication. By no means was the restaurant dirty but there was gnats all around our table. It didn’t seem like this was the case at other tables but still gross. We ended up turning off the light at our table which seemed to help but half way through our dinner, one ended up in my drink.
Service – Average. We ordered the Whipped Ricotta as an appetizer. A good amount of ricotta comes as an app for 2 people. It came with 4 crostinis. We asked our waitress for extra bread to finish up the dip. She said she had to check in with the kitchen. She never reported back to our table but the bread came. Later we say we were charged on the bill for bread. This is poor service in the fact that the waitress should return to the table, let the customers know the bread could be provided but as an up-charge. This was definitely a shock on the bill.
Food – Good. The Whipped Ricotta app is tasty (I also love fig). My boyfriend ordered the Salmon and thought it was nice and light. I ordered the Short Rib Pasta. The ragout was very good. A couple pieces of fat (I normally don’t eat this type of meat so fat really turns me off) and a couple pieces that were chewy. Took home half .
Price – WAY TOO OVERPRICED! This is the absolute biggest downfall of The Maddox. I ordered a dirty martini – $20 for one drink. I was charged $16 for the vodka and $4 for the olive juice. Not entirely sure why they charge this separate. As said, the gnat ended up in my drink, well before I could finish it and it was taken off the bill.
There are so many amazing spots in Montclair. I would skip The Maddox and try something else!

Large restaurant with a gorgeous dark interior. Full bar and signature cocktails.
Spicy hot honey calamari, not spicy but very sweet. Pan seared chicken, crispy skin and juicy inside. The cipollini onions in mash potatoes were really good.
