Standout dishes were: French Style Black Pepper Beef, BBQ Pork Chop, Beef Rib Pho.
The Five Spice Chicken lacked flavor, so would benefit from more seasoning.

Delicious!! So far there was not anything I’ve ordered that was not good. Been there twice?

We only tried two dishes.

French steak with pepper sauce and tomatoes rice – The steak was very tender, 85% of them. Good flavor. On top of salad which they added some home made dressing. Very tasty. The steak came with a lemon based sauce also delightful since I love lemon. I added into the tomatoes rice and made it more appetitive.

Crab meat and vermicelli in tomatoes soup – the crab meat ball was very well done. Been to places that it broke apart. This one was done with good texture.

Service was excellent. Great attitude, smiling and courteous.

I will try this place again for more dishes if I’m in the city craving for Vietnamese food.

There is a separate vegan section on the menu with a good variety of options.
Got the combo noodle soup, only size option is large, it’s mainly noodles with a fair amount of toppings, would probably get another noodle soup option next time. Also got the BBQ pork and egg roll vermicelli bowl, this was really delicious, flavorful, and fresh.
Good option if eating with omnis. Easy to get a table for a large group during the week.

One of my newly discovered (where have I been? Late to the game) places. I come for the ginormous bone marrow dish, the banh xeo (viet crepe) and the shaken beef plates. You really can’t go wrong here. They do a superb job with any of their dishes

I ordered the small beef rib pho with thin rice noodles (otherwise the default is ho fun, they also have lai fun). The soup was a bit bland, but it came with a ton of noodles. they have fish sauce in the side, which really helped bring the soup to life! I had them cook the bean sprouts a bit and it helped keep the soup nice and hot. I was sweating towards the end!

We also ordered some wings as an appetizer and a plum soda. The plum soda was delicious and I was surprised they had it on the menu! I feel like not many Viet noodle places have it in SF. The wings were good and came out hot. We were a bit annoyed that the wings came after our main entree, otherwise service was good and they were attentive.

The place has a hole in the wall vibe and parking is not difficult at all if you park a block away and not on Taravel.

Phenomenal Vietnamese foods! The chef, Ms. Hoa, is a super talented chef. We had private menu (requires 1-2 days advance notice) and every dish was excellent! Taste is very balanced, both elevated yet homey. Wait staffs were attentive and professional. Will be back again!

Had a bunch of items from here so far, nothing was bad but there were some just average dishes.
The standout has been the beef bone pho, it has a huge piece of tender meat and tons of flavor!
The vermicelli noodle dishes are nice and refreshing, a good way to eat healthy
The garlic noodles were just average and nothing special while the coconut curry was just ok as well, very creamy tasting but not as strong flavors as I would like

Great to see the restaurant busy on a Friday evening. Their vermicelli bowls are packed to the brim! I’ve gotten their five spice chicken dishes a few times and it’s by far one of the best in the sunset, imo. Just wish there was a bit more meat. The noodle to meat ratio does tend to be off.

Updated review 9/30/2022: The chef at Viet Quan knows his wok. Under the chef’s special dishes section of the menu, I had their Hanoi fried rice $16. It had generous pieces of cha hue (Vietnamese ham), chicken, fried egg, green onion, grilled pork and shrimp. This was great. The fried rice had good flavor with the meats still moist. For good fried rice, the rice doesn’t stick together and not mushy. The right amount of soy sauce removes the plainness of rice. For my appetizer, I had imperial rolls $9.50. Some places don’t do it, but Viet Quan includes lettuce, mint leaves and rice noodles so that you can make wraps. Good stuff. Excellent service. No wait at 5:45pm on a Friday evening.

Original review: New Vietnamese restaurant on Taraval St. Opened until 9pm, there was still a line at 8:20pm. The menu is exciting. Sadly, most items were out of stock when I arrived. I wanted to try the Hanoi fried rice served in some sort of leaf. The table next to mine had it. The French style bone marrow and steak, ginger and scallion crab and other family dishes were at another table and they looked awesome. I ordered the Vietnamese carpaccio (raw beef) $16 and a beef rib pho large $20. They both tasted OK. It wasn’t great. I’m just glad I don’t have to drive down to San Jose to get decent beef rib pho. Service was friendly and my food came out fast.
