Sunny Thai was a pleasant and spicy surprise! We decided last minute to get some dinner and this was close by. We ordered two basic dishes: Pineapple Fried Rice and Pad Thai with Shrimp. Both were surprisingly great! And the servings were huge – we could have shared one. But were looking forward to the leftovers!

Oh my goodness! This was the absolute best Thai food experience I’ve ever had. The Yellow Curry was incredibly hot, bursting with flavor, and simply fantastic! The staff was incredibly friendly, and the service was incredibly fast. I can’t wait to explore the rest of the menu. This place has become my new go-to spot, no longer do I have to travel all the way to Uptown for authentic Thai cuisine. It’s right here in my own backyard! Unfortunately, the interior wasn’t particularly appealing, so I didn’t take any pictures. However, the food was absolutely incredible.

Everyone working here is so nice! The food was great, service was quick, despite how busy everyone is. All of the servers work together to make everyone’s experience amazing here. They also had many vegan and vegetarian options here. My only complaint is that the fresh spring rolls come with such a small amount for the price. Everything else was amazing.

I ate here for the first time today. The food was hot and fresh. The pad thai was very good. It comes with chicken, but you can get other protein options for a small fee. I sat in bar area that has big screen tvs. There’s a large dining area with tables so they can probably do a party up to 20 people. I’ll definitely be back to try other dishes.

Overall score: 2.5. While Sunny Thai has some good dishes, namely their appetizers, their curries and mains had way too much sugar. Portions were fair for the price.

Individual dish scores below (in order of photo, besides first two photos, which are jasmine rice and fried rice):

Tom Yum Soup (forgot to take pic of this one): 0/5. Tom Yum is one of my most favorite soups ever! And this one just tasted so syrupy sweet. Not like Tom Yum at all. I asked for the spiciest level too and the sugar was so great that it nearly drowned out any spiciness (and any other flavor, for that matter) in the soup.

Jungle Curry: 2/5. Better than the Tom Yum, but still too much sugar. Had a good amount of spiciness though, which was good. Could have used a bit more liquid as well.

Thai Coffee: 5/5. Strong. Sweet. Refreshing. Would get again.

Ka Paw: 1/5. Too sweet, not enough flavor

Chicken Basil Wrap: 5/5. Great dish. Flavorful and light. One of the best dishes here.

Fried Lao Sausage: 5/5. I’m unsure what this is “supposed” to taste like since I’d never had it before, but it was very tasty.

Fried Chicken Skin: 5/5. Tied with the chicken Basil wrap for best dish. So simple and so good.

Crispy Crab Avocado Roll: 2/5. Somewhat tasty but not worth the price. Barely any crab and only 4 half-rolls included.

Green Curry: 0/5. Ah green curry, my love. This is my absolute favorite Thai dish and favorite curry in the world. I make it several times a year from scratch. This dish was so bad it makes me sad. Super thick, super sweet, barely any spiciness, though I asked for the spiciest level. Did not taste like green curry at all. Avoid this dish.

While driving to the gym the other day, I noticed a brand-new Thai spot in Cedar Hill—Sunny’s Thai Restaurant—and decided to stop in after my workout. What a fantastic discovery!

I began with a steaming bowl of egg drop soup that tasted incredibly fresh and authentic, followed by crispy pork egg rolls so light and flavorful they practically melted in my mouth.

For my main course, I ordered the Healthy Ginger Chicken—a beautiful mix of tender chicken, fresh vegetables, and a perfectly balanced in-house brown sauce infused with real ginger. Every bite felt vibrant and satisfying.

The staff impressed me just as much as the food. My server, Mei, was warm, professional, and timed each course perfectly so the meal felt like an experience rather than just a lunch.

If you’re looking for authentic Thai flavors, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere right here in Cedar Hill, I can’t recommend Sunny’s Thai Restaurant enough. It’s a hidden gem you’ll be glad you tried!

Such a great Thai place! The service is truly impeccable and the food was awesome. We got Thai tea, Thai coffee, pad see ew and my fave, massamun curry with tofu. All were excellent and felt healthy and fresh.

Sunny Thai is a gem! The drunken noodles are hands-down the best dish on the menu—flavors were absolutely spot on. Curry was banging and came with plenty of rice. The slushes are super juicy, and the Thai lychee tea had just the right touch of sweetness. I’ve already been back twice! What I love most is the variety—whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or plant-based, there’s something here for everyone. Definitely a great addition to the neighborhood.

Glad I stopped.
Had the Drunken chicken, pad Kew Mow. I joked with waiter of Thai spicy or white person spicy, he said Thai spicy so I went with middle of the road apicy (3 of 5)… I could have gone to a 4.

Very good flavor and a good portion. Chicken size was great not to big and not to small, very tender. Could have used a little more vegetables. Peppers, tomatoes, carrots and I think a few green beans.
Will b back when in the area.

It has a large table area and a bar area with a few booths. Was very comfortable and not too loud, there around d 7:30 on Thursday. If full it might get loud.

Large amount of ToGo and TakeOut orders. I still got my meal quickly.
