It was a Friday brunch date at Shands, our first time there, and it was delightful!! We loved the atmosphere, very bright and airy and yet warm and cozy, depending on where you are seated. Our server Jack was great!
We had a few appetizers along with our main course… all tasting superb! I want to say this was my favorite or that was my favorite but I honestly can’t!! Everything was flavorful and nice on the palate!
The drink I had (nonalcoholic) was tasty and my husband’s they pulled no punches, not skimping on the alcohol but also still very tasty!!
I would love to experience Shands for dinner… so we will definitely be returning for round two!!

My new favorite dinner spot on Long Island. Burger was to DIE for and the pasta was literally so amazing. Staff, service, food everything was a 10/10

Let me tell you, if you don’t mind being served 8 tortellinis at a whopping $4 per tort, then this place is for you. I understand small portions if the pasta is delectable, but this was not that.

The service was good. The cocktails were fine. The rolls and steak were good(if you don’t mind a side of mcdonalds fries with your steak). The caesar salad was bland. Overall the restaurant itself was fine, and I would not recommend going here for good food.

We recently hosted a corporate dinner at Shands General Restaurant, and the entire experience exceeded expectations. From the moment we arrived, the staff was professional, attentive, and clearly experienced in handling group events. The atmosphere struck the perfect balance between upscale and comfortable, making it ideal for both business conversation and a relaxed evening with colleagues.
The food was outstanding, beautifully presented, flavorful, and consistently excellent across the table.

Service timing was seamless, allowing our group to enjoy the evening without feeling rushed while still keeping everything moving smoothly.

What really stood out was the attention to detail and hospitality from the team. They made coordinating a corporate dinner feel effortless, which is no small feat.

We would absolutely recommend Shands General for business dinners, team celebrations, or any occasion where you want great food paired with professional service.

On the chilly night of Saturday, February 7th, we hosted a well-attended surprise birthday celebration at The Loft at Shands General, and the night could not have gone better. The energy was amazing from start to finish, the kind where you immediately know you made the right call on the venue.

Julian, Events and Partner, was absolutely incredible, both throughout the planning process and on the day of the event. She was thoughtful, present, and somehow everywhere at once, which made the entire experience feel seamless. The rest of the team was just as attentive, and everything flowed perfectly.

The food was delicious and a huge hit with everyone. The room setup was spot on, with a long communal table paired with high tops that struck the perfect balance of social, relaxed, and celebratory. The live band was placed thoughtfully in just the right spot, present and engaging without overpowering the room or competing with conversation. The passed hors d’oeuvres were absolutely delicious and well planned, and one small but standout touch was having coffee passed by staff instead of set up as self serve. It added a polished, elevated feel and, just as importantly, avoided the inevitable late-night coffee station chaos.

After the main party in The Loft, a smaller group decided to keep things going across the hall in The State Room, an intimate, beautifully designed speakeasy-style bar and lounge. Before we even made our way over to join them, Julian asked if she could get our drinks started and handed me and the guest of honor a generous pour of our scotch or choice. It was such a thoughtful and seamless transition.

We wrapped things up downstairs in Shands General’s main restaurant and larger bar with one final round of cocktails before heading out and officially calling it a night.

Huge thanks to Julian, the chef, and the entire Shands General team for an amazing evening.

This is a really beautiful restaurant with a classy open atmosphere. The drinks were excellent and enjoyed by our whole party, everyone was a fan of my Orange Crush. We enjoyed the squash hummus as well as the short rib French onion soups as appetizers and both were exquisite! For entrees, we ordered the steak frites, pork steak, double burger, and I enjoyed the lamb shank with a side of the cheese orzo. Let me tell you: everything was BEYOND delicious. We were all blown away by how such different items were all uniquely designed and tasty. We split the lemon parfait for dessert and I enjoyed the cafe Borgia, which tasted like a chocolate with orange crème inside. I HIGHLY recommend giving this place a visit as you will not be disappointed. Service was great, too!

One of my absolute favorite restaurants. Came here for happy hour once and had to come back for brunch and dinner. The food is fresh and local and the service has been 10/10 every time I’ve come from both the bartenders and the servers. The atmosphere is really cool too, you can tell the owners put a lot of thought and love into the decor, dishes, and cocktails. Can’t wait to come back

2025 update: Shands remains as one of the best restaurants on Long Island. They have an amazing menu, the staff is great, cocktails are incredible and they change every season, and the food is amazing. Their events are also great, we went to one with a set menu and wine pairing, which had some of the best food we’ve had in a while. Still highly recommended.

What an amazing experience to dine at Shands General! They blew it out of the park right after opening.

TL;DR: Go eat here, you won’t regret it, it’s the best restaurant in Patchogue, and one of the best on LI.

Drinks: As expected considering how good the drinks are at The State Room, every cocktail we had was great. Flavorful, not strong, and refreshing. Also pretty inventive and not just the classics.

Food: We were so glad that the food quality was at the same level as The State Room, and maybe even higher! We had the chopped cheese as a starter and it was one of the most full of flavor dishes I’ve had in a while. We did the duck breast for two as a main and it was perfectly presented and cooked.

Location: They did a great job with the renovation. The place looks modern, stylish, and the huge windows at the front make it a perfect choice for a summer day meal. They also had great live music which was a nice surprise.

Service: This is where they truly excel! Everyone at the staff was attentive, full of energy and at no point we felt we needed to call someone’s attention. Amazing they were able to open with a well functioning system right from the start.

Price: It’s not cheap, so be prepared for that! The price is worth it for the quality you get though.

We will definitely be back, Shands has taken one of the top spots in our favorite Long Island restaurants.

Went to Shands General for my birthday dinner and was so happy from beginning to end. The servers were kind and attentive. They answered any questions we had and gave solid suggestions. We had the duck breast for two which is definitely more than enough for two. We had a side of orzo and a side of broccolini as well. The orzo was very rich in a good way. The broccolini had a delicate char which sounds simple but I have often had it burnt at other places. We also started with the bread with the ricotta and the bone marrow and beef tartar. The beef tartar is plated table side by a server. Amazing! They ended our meal with a surprise dessert with a candle for me. Will be going back again!

If I could give ten stars I would. To say this restaurant is incredible is an understatement. I was blown away.

Cocktails are of course excellent, just like State Room. Bert, Francis, and Anthony of course know what they are doing!

The food, my goodness, is delightful. Francis Derby is a mastermind.

Try everything! You won’t be disappointed. I’d say to go with a few people so you can try many things.

I hesitate reviewing such a phenomenal restaurant, as I would love to keep it a secret and make sure I can still get a table!! Bravo!!
