Great place, food, service and atmosphere! And they have an open mic which is AWESOME. I love that this place is walkable from my house. Lots of VG and GF options!

Makin Groceries is truly a gem in Portland! Jade, the owner, went above and beyond by welcoming my disabled client into the kitchen to learn, explore, and be a part of the process. My client, Noel, absolutely loved the experience and came away inspired and full of new knowledge. It was such a thoughtful opportunity that really highlights what makes this place so special.
Makin Groceries isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a community. Their vision of creating a vibrant, inclusive space where everyone has access to nutritious food and creative expression shines through in everything they do. The pay-what-you-can model, their commitment to mutual aid, and the genuine sense of togetherness they foster makes this more than just a place to eat—it’s a place to belong.
Thank you, Jade and the whole team, for making space for everyone and showing what true community care looks like. Portland is lucky to have Makin Groceries!

Came for the performers and had dinner, chose the jambalaya with pork belly and it was delicious. Cool place and like what they do here.

We went for the fixed price dinner (parish) and it was everything i want in such an evening: 5 courses I’d never order, coctails with ingredients that are a mystery to me… but heckin’ delicious and each opened my eyes to new things for the future. The portions are quite reasonable (not big, not micro artsy arrangements). The decor is (currently) unpretentious, which makes me think they havent taken out an overly-sized loan for a trendy remodel… this will attract some but repel scenesters. The wine/beer list is minimal, but quality and under-priced. We will be going back.

My partner and I had the most INCREDIBLE dinner at Parish, Makin’ Groceries fine dining counterpart. The pre fixe menu was full of stellar courses, the drinks were top notch, and the service was outstanding. I seriously recommend checking them out, and supporting their mission. I can’t wait to go back for another dinner, and also to their pay what you can cafe – finally a place where I can get a good muffaletta in Portland!!

I highly support the mission of Makin’ Groceries, communities coming together to support each other is the most important and most admirable thing we can do in times like these.

On top of that, the food is incredible.

My husband and I did the Pre Fixe supper at their after-hours joint, Parish. Every course was a hit, we ended up ordering more to take home. The music is a vibe and you can tell a lot of love has gone into both the space and the food.
