This is actually a one star review. But because you can’t see one star reviews….

Expect them to be rude and embarrass you if you don’t leave a tip. If you go by yourself, they’ll seat you with other people to make space for more customers. I don’t have a problem with that. The issue was the restaurant’s etiquette. If you go in pairs or in a group. One person will receive their food 10 minutes at a time. And if you don’t leave a tip due to the amount of rudeness when you kindly ask about your food (i promise i asked kindly. I’m not the type to have an attitude with restaurant workers). The prices are high and it’s $18 to order a side of pork fried rice because the $20 meal does not come with a side.

Bottom line, they stood in my way and made a scene about me not leaving a tip after my bad experience. I would much rather go to a restaurant that’s accommodating to the customer. I gave the guy a $10 tip to de-escalate the situation but I’m not coming back here ever again….

East Season Restaurant is a hidden gem for authentic Chinese food. The family-style menu makes sharing dishes easy and fun. Complimentary hot tea starts the meal, and fresh orange slices at the end are a refreshing touch. Spacious seating and friendly, attentive staff make this spot truly welcoming.

Not a splashy place but authentic and tasty Chinese Cantonese food that’s consistent. We’ve eaten here a few times and the food doesn’t disappoint at a fair price. The service is polite, cordial, and attentive. Here’s my TA$TE ratings:

I purchased a whole Duck and Large chicken fried rice for my family to bring back to NJ and they did not disappoint. We love this style of Duck and everyone enjoyed it. We will definitely be coming back when in NYC. Thanks!

Chinatown gem for authentic Cantonese—East Season delivers big, fresh flavors! Food was outstanding: roast duck crispy-skinned and juicy, shrimp har gow plump and translucent, BBQ pork tender and sweet-savory, and live clam stir-fry garlicky and briny. Portions huge—great value.
Service was quick and friendly (they hustle during busy times). Atmosphere is classic and energetic—big tables, clattering carts, family vibe—feels like real dim sum chaos in the best way, though it’s loud and crowded.

During our visit in Chinatown my partner wanted Chinese food so we stopped here had to wait a few minutes because this place is busy we shared a table which seems like a common theme food was delicious.

We really enjoyed our meal here! Very casual and absolutely unassuming, it was just what we were looking for. Large portions, authentic, delicious food and a very reasonable price. NO FRILLS! (This cannot be overstated!). Our server was quite friendly and attentive. Seems like the place attracts local folks who are looking for a good meal at a good price.

5 star rating is based on the class of diner style restaurants around the area. It’s a locally oriented restaurant tailored to serve the community which blends the old school Chinese style food service while it’s also appealing to the non-asian visitors. The food was great. The staffs are friendly and would explain and describe the dishes to the customers who are not familiar with the different items on the menu. We’ve been both eating in and ordering takeouts for quite a while.

If you’re a tourist and follow the rule of eat where the locals eat, this is the place. Nothing fancy but a good meal.

Some of the dishes I recommend are the stir fry lobster with sticky rice. It’s a very delicious and filling dish not too many restaurants serve. Another one is snow pea sprouts with crab meat. It combines the fresh sweet taste of young snow pea sprouts with the natural sweetness of crab meat. Of course their BBQ meats are my favorite takeaways, from roasted duck to the roasted pig with the crispy skin.

My husband and I are from Toronto and were quite impressed on how genuine their dishes were.
We ordered the hot pepper fried pork intestine (most impressive), 1/2 free run chicken and black pepper steak filet. The black pepper steak fell short a bit, but not terrible.
Service was actually quite good to my surprise… very tentative. Seating is not five star, but because of the value and quality of food, I give them a 20% gratuity and an overall 5-star rating.
