Since I am originally from Taiwan, and have been to Hanlin Tea Room in Taiwan, I must say this place really lost the typical “zen” feeling of the Tea Room. Wrong music, wrong lighting. I remember in Taiwan, they play Chinese instrumental music with yellow-ish lighting, which creates wonderful quiet zen feeling. In this location, the lighting is also too bright, absolutely NO “ZEN” feeling AT ALL (as they promote on ads).

Yet, food and drinks are good. I wish they could really make the Tea Room more “zen” to stands out in the crowd. There are already too many similar Tea places around this area.

4.25 STAR. Overall. I’m pleasantly surprised at this place, I walked in thinking it’ll be a bad lunch experience but I’ll endure it to hang out with friends. The food quality is up to par and not overly salty. Apparently my friends are frequent customers here, and now it’ll be added to my list of would return places. Only thing that lingers on my mind is that a large drink and single bowl of soup noodle costs me $20 flat out the door. Not exactly inexpensive, especially when I can get rid of lunch and conveniently feed a whole family with In-n-Out located in the same plaza. Its appeal to me is that it offers unique and light items on the menu that other typical Taiwanese restaurants in the area do not offer. Most other Taiwanese places only offer fried, fried, deep fried, and overly fried food… so glad I can not feel dry here. Short by a star, despite the boba tea tasting good, is that its non-caffeinated tea drinks is nearly non-existent. I do get sick of caffeine overdose and do prefer a more relaxing system with milder, calmer tea from time to time, so I don’t have to stay up until 3:30 am as it occurred… I’d be glad to up the star when more options become available.

4.5 STAR. $11.95 Hakka Salty Pork Noodle Soup. Pleasantly surprised at the flavor, texture, and even the feel after the meal. This special black-colored noodle does not leave me feeling heavy and bogged down like regular noodles do. The pork was distinctly flavorful and the soup was not overly salty. Server recommended this as a popular dish on the soup menu section, as it’s my custom to find out upon initial visit. Did not disappoint. I wish there was more soup in my bowl, but I know everyone consumes differently so it’s hard to get it just perfect. (I had 1/3 bowl of noodles unfinished, my friend had none yet the soup is completely untouched.)

4 STAR. Boba Milk Tea. Great boba texture, smooth natural tea and milky milk flavor. Strong caffeine effects. I don’t usually prefer to get caffeinated drinks as it recks havoc to my natural balance. (Aftermath of taking too much caffeine pills for finals while in college…) I would avoid it next time for my own benefit, but I wouldn’t mind recommending it to caffeine lovers.

3 STAR. Service. Mediocre at best, but it doesn’t bother me much with average service at an Asian restaurant. However it does get noticeable and start to get annoying when we had to request for to-go container repeated without fulfillment. My friend ended up self-serving to get over the hurdle. Everything else was done right, just missed the mark on this.

Other. Friends enjoyed the 3 Cup Chicken and Beef Noodle Soup here. Good to note for future visits.

The drinks are decent but the food is just ok. The hotpot I ordered looks and taste bland. The fried tofu is flavorless as well. Staffs are friendly and parking are plenty. Overall, it’s a pricy Taiwan street food but in a restaurant. Skip it.

Love the food here – simple and unpretentious. Must try their 烧仙草 and stir fry cabbage. Service is good too and it feels like home away from home.

Tea is awesome but the food is okay in general. The service is not good. Some servers dont pay attention to what the customers want/order, i have to go back and forth for a simple thing.

After a year, service has been improved dramatically. Tea is still great with decent food in general.

Summary: recommend!
Returned customer and only ordered the tea this time. Still good! (ps. I always asked for bothbig and small/mixed sizes boba.)

I have to say, this is one of the few places where I actually don’t mind the QR code ordering system, mostly because the service was spot-on. Even though I still had to go through the entire process of placing my order myself, the server made up for it by being super knowledgeable and attentive. She knew the menu by heart, offered great suggestions, and answered all my questions without hesitation.

We came after the rush, so the restaurant was pretty empty—just one other table besides ours. While I’m generally not a fan of QR code ordering (mainly because the interfaces are often clunky, and too many places with this system seem to have an entitled attitude while demanding tips), this spot was different. Here, I didn’t feel rushed or ignored.

I appreciate the server’s full attention when helping me—that’s honestly all I really want when dining out. The human connection is part of the experience, and I felt like I got that here.

Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a place with solid service and good food, even if QR code ordering isn’t your thing!

Oh, no pictures; not this time. I dived right in!

Veggie rice and ground beef bowl. The hot jasmine green tea latte is pretty good.

Their Taiwanese is good. Not quite the most authentic but it’s close enough. I tried their noodle soup and old fashion black tea. Both are equally good.
