The waiter who took care of us was incredibly forgetful. He had to repeat our order twice. The edamame never arrived, so we had to remind him twice. The taste was on par with Public sushi. I don’t think I’ll be going again. I think the chef has changed. I was quite pleased when I went last year. I was surprised.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for over 14 years, and while the food has always been good, the service has declined to the point that I can no longer recommend it. Tonight was the final straw.

Our server Moet, came out initially with water, then disappeared for about 10 minutes before taking my order for myself and my two sons. She brought the food out but never came back to check on us. I had asked for well-done shrimp with my shrimp fried rice, but the shrimp came out barely cooked. My sons finished their meals while I waited, expecting the server to return so I could have my shrimp cooked properly. She never did. I ended up eating just the rice and leaving the shrimp on a separate plate.

Over 20 minutes after I had finished, I was about to get up to find her or a manager when I saw her walking back toward the restaurant—hands full of groceries from Publix. When she finally approached us, she said, “Is everything okay? I told them to watch you.” That was shocking. Leaving your customers unattended to go grocery shopping is unacceptable, and nobody came by to “watch” us in her absence.

To make matters worse, when it came time to pay, she was very quick to run my card and even quicker to swoop back and collect the signed check presenter—yet at no point did she clear any of the dirty plates from our table. The priorities were obvious, and they had nothing to do with hospitality.

This restaurant has been a favorite of ours for years, especially when sitting inside in the genkan room. But lately, the service has consistently been poor. Tonight made it clear that management needs to retrain staff on basic steps of service—hospitality is the foundation of this industry. Sadly, after too many bad experiences and especially after tonight with our server, Moet, we won’t be returning. Good food alone cannot make up for such unprofessional service.

I always like Sushi Yama, and this was my first time at this location. It was very good—fresh and tasty as always. I paid in cash and didn’t want to leave a 20% tip, so I asked for change and left a 15% tip instead. The staff member seemed annoyed. I believe there should be a reasonable limit to tipping. This was the first time I experienced something like this.

This is a great local spot for sushi and Asian food. It’s tucked away in a corner of a Publix plaza.
The food has always been good here as well as service. I do wish they had a fountain machine for soda instead of giving you a can.

I work in the area, so I am mostly there at lunch time. The food is always good, always fresh, and carry out is fast. My only complaint would be like all restaurants nowadays, they want to force you to tip for everything.

Love the food here!! I went here last week with a bunch of friends and accidentally forgot my leftover sushi, but one of the workers (Thomas) saw. When I came back to see if it was still there, he had it saved behind a counter!!! Definitely would recommend others to eat here, and super thankful to Thomas for saving my veggie rolls!!!

Visiting from New York, which has a very high standard for sushi, I was impressed with the quality and quantity of the rolls. Just three special rolls was so much, I went home stuffed. The place is very popular, with indoor and outdoor seating. The sushi bar looks really popular. Overall, the scene is a happening location.

My friends and I had stopped here for dinner after coming back from the Renaissance Festival.

We got seated right away for our large group and we got served our drinks. I ordered the chicken spring rolls which were delicious and had the Sushi Yama roll and the Honeymoon Roll. The Sushi Yama roll was the best one as it was wrapped in a crepe! It was an interesting combination.

The service started off great but two of my friends didn’t get their food on time and they were getting upset. By the time their plate’s arrived I was already done with mine, and when we wanted to close out our waitress was nowhere to be found. We had to wait for some time for her to return.

I’ll probably be ordering online and taking it to go instead of dining in.

My wife and I were frequent diners at Sushi Yama, mostly for the bento boxes, sushi-sashimi combo, and one of the house specials and my wife’s favorite, the Yama Shrimp. For this visit my wife ordered the Yama Shrimp, which to this day still specifies “on top is asparagus”. When the plate came, the presentation had the shrimp on its sauce and steamed broccoli on the side.

When my wife requested clarification on where the mistake had been made, the waitress started arguing that they switched the asparagus for broccoli a long time ago.

Then we requested the menu to confirm the dish clearly stated “on top of asparagus”. She continued arguing that they had made the change months ago.

We got the impression that management just does not care about misleading customers on top of a terrible waitress attitude.

Since then, we are looking for a new Japanese restaurant with decent service in the area. Recommendations accepted.
