I had lunch today at the newly opened New Chicken Chinese restaurant. This location has a long history—it was originally Golden Chicken Inn, first opened in 1929, and now under new ownership with just a name change. The interior looks almost identical to before, keeping that nearly 100-year-old charm.
I ordered Mongolian Beef, House Fried Rice, and a Beijing Pie.
• The meal came with complimentary soup. I asked for tea and water; however, the tea wasn’t included and was later charged at $3.75.
• The Mongolian Beef was ordered mild-spicy. The beef quality was excellent—tender and flavorful. Compared to other places, it was less sweet, and it was cooked more with onions than green onions, giving it a lighter taste.
• The House Fried Rice was a combination with beef, chicken, and shrimp. It had a clean, less-oily flavor, though the taste itself was average rather than outstanding.
• The Beijing Pie was filled with beef, chicken, and shrimp, and took about 15–20 minutes to prepare. It was full of hot juices, so I recommend biting into it carefully rather than cutting it in half.
Overall, the food was enjoyable and the server’s service was excellent. My rating today is 4.5 out of 5. Next time, I plan to try their dumplings and wonton soup.
The only downsides: parking is street only, and the restaurant is on the second floor, which may be inconvenient for those who have trouble with stairs. Still, it was a peaceful weekday lunch, and I really enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere of a restaurant with a century of history.

Went here yesterday and it was delicious and the service was great. The place gave grandmas house feel lol it was actually nice. The place definitely has history and you can tell they respect that. The only downside I could find was parking and how the food and drinks were served. Placing your hand on the cup where ppl drink is not the best way to serve it but the place is new and there’s room for improvement. However I had a lovely dinner with my husband and we will definitely come back because there’s no doubt in my mind the place will only get better. My favorite was the orange chicken, it was perfectly crispy and delicious! The price was very affordable for the amount of food too. Would definitely recommend this place.

We’re visiting Oxnard for the long weekend and bumped into this place. I’m from Northern China and I’m really surprised to find a restaurant with authentic Northern Chinese food. The Beijing Pie is spot on- tastes just like the food I had in hometown. Food is reasonably priced and the portion is huge. The service is great too!

We saw that the Golden Chicken Inn has new owners and it’s now called New chicken. The food is so delicious. Better than I expected. The manager, is very friendly and welcoming. We tried the Sizzling Beef, Kung Pao chicken, and Omg the beef and green onion dumplings are the best. Definitely the new best Chinese in town

We enjoyed our lunch here last week! The manager, Mario, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Standouts for us were the Beijing beef and onion pies and the stir-fried mixed vegetables with tofu. The stir fry was so fresh and clean tasting. Definitely a highlight. The General Tso’s chicken was flavorful and delicious. Loved the old-school vibe of the space-the linoleum floors, the little wooden alcoves that line one end of the room, the old photos. Let’s support this solid restaurant and piece of Oxnard history!

It was my first experience with BeiJing Pie – I really liked it. The fish dumplings were really yummy as well. The hot and sour soup had good chunky stuff but needed to be hotter and sourer. The atmosphere could use some work for dine-in especially the lighting.

Ordered delivery from here and this will now be our go-to restaurant! We ordered Hot & Sour Soup and were so excited New Chicken includes tender pork in their recipe. (You can’t find that anywhere anymore.)
They also have xian bing, which is a delicious meat hand pie, that I haven’t found anywhere else in Ventura County.
