The cafe itself is very cute and impressively clean. As for the food, it was what I needed—hot, filling, and the coffee was actually pretty decent. However, the service left a lot to be desired. We weren’t greeted or even acknowledged when we walked in; the staff stayed focused on other tasks without a simple “be with you in a second.” It made me feel like I was in the wrong place or missing a sign. While the ordering process was efficient, it was completely transactional—no eye contact, no “you’re welcome,” and no warmth. Good food, but a very flat experience.

Finally Los Alamos has good coffee!
Good food also, including a solid Charcuterie/cheese board, and they have good wine and beer

Great relaxed atmosphere to meet with people or get some work done. The best coffee shop in town. And they also have lunch options (burritos and sandwiches).

Updated review once again the people here working are not trained correctly. My latte was extremely under steamed and once again no latte art with extremely long wait even though there’s only one person in front of me. Took about 20 minutes total to get one latte and they don’t even use the porcelain cups available to provide it a good design. This will be the last time I come back.
Sorry, can’t say it was a great experience. Pretty slow and a latte was not good. They have a nice machine but they need to get somebody knows that operate it. The milk was extremely over steamed and the green chili croissant was flat and doughy. I have to come back again next visit to get a cup of coffee.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to try to get work done.

We are out-of-town visitors and happened on Wolf and Mermaid by chance. We got breakfast croissants and a couple of different specialty lattes. Everything was so delicious! We especially enjoyed the croissant sandwiches. The cafe atmosphere was great as well. The service was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Los Alamos!

My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Wolf and Mermaid cafe. It’s a charming spot with great coffee and delicious food options. We tried the burritos and muffins, which were both excellent, and also recommend the Green Chile Cheese Croissant and the Pain au Chocolat. Most of all though, we were really touched by how kind the staff was!
We visited the Los Alamos History Museum and stopped here for a bite. We were staying in Santa Fe and had taken an Uber to get here and were hoping to Uber back. We didn’t know that there weren’t any Uber/Lyft drivers in the area and it being Labor Day, there was no public transport available either. We were at a loss and didn’t know anyone in the area so my wife asked the staff for help and they were so gracious!
Want to especially thank Eliza – she looked into what was available, suggested multiple options, checked on us every few minutes while we were trying to find a taxi service (that was open and had a driver who could come pick us up) and even offered that her husband would drive us all the way to Santa Fe if we couldn’t find another option! We were so grateful and deeply touched by the kindness she showed to us complete strangers. When we finally got a taxi, she even packed a couple croissants for us as it was my birthday 🙂
Thank you Eliza! We won’t forget your kindness – it actually restored our faith in humanity a little bit 🙂
All in all – lovely folks, great cafe – highly recommended!

Good lord how do they charge those latte prices. The vibes here are amazing but man I’m just so disappointed with the quality and price of their coffee.
Apparently their burritos are great? I can’t tell because I get sticker shock when I see their coffee so I tend to go to Sugar & Cream. That’s my plan next time around!

I absolutely love this place. I have been going there everyday since I came to Los Alamos. Staff is friendly, drip coffee is great (even with my high coffee standards), wide selection of aeromatic tea and good wifi. OH and the chocolate croissant might be the best choco criossant I ever had.
I wish this city had more coffee shops like this for variety, but I am not bored yet!.
