The bathrooms were clean, but the music was blaring in there. The music in the eating area was a little loud too, but manageable. Overall, it was a good experience and will definitely be visiting again!
Food-wise: I wasn’t a fan of the pimento mac and cheese, but the greens were delicious with very few stems. The medium wings were excellent—piping hot and full of flavor. I’ll definitely be back.
We’d tried the Birmingham Hattie B’s in the past to very positive effect so we’re beyond thrilled they’re here. After the loss of Big Shake’s a few years ago, there’s been 0 opportunities for good hot chicken in town. No longer!
We visited a few weeks ago, not too long after their grand opening. There’s soooo much parking, especially since for now Hattie B’s is the only real game in the area. Still, there was a line out the door that we joined quickly; I guess we came at a good time because it got much worse within a few minutes of us stepping in. Still, despite that fact, it was only 20 minutes between our joining the line and placing our order. All things considered, not too mad about it. They had heaters on the sidewalk close to the restaurant so we weren’t freezing, either.
Employees were on it and still pretty friendly and engaged despite the huge crowd. My husband and I ordered for ourselves as well as my father and sister in law and they handled the large order well. We wound up sitting outside below one of the heaters. There’s a good amount of seating, especially outdoors, and it’s compatible with large parties. Our food came out in an appropriate amount of time. Beverages are self-serve; one of the sweet tea jugs poured unsweetened tea for me, but I dumped it and found a different container more suitable to my tastes.
We ordered a variety of tenders, bone-in bird, and chicken sandwiches. I got medium heat tenders with fries and an extra side of pimento macaroni and cheese, as that was my favorite thing at my last visit in Bham. My other sis-in-law and her husband got fried pickles for the table and they were good! Crispy pickle chips served with delicious ranch. Can’t go wrong there.
My husband got bone-in fried chicken. He ordered it hot, which is one step up from the medium he got at our last visit (which, at the time, wasn’t hot enough for him). One side of his chicken was reallyyyyy hot (uncomfortably so – and also comparably significantly hotter than BIL’s hot tenders) and the other was pretty mild. Idk if maybe the seasoning got dusted unequally or what, but he was suffering until he wasn’t, lol. He still enjoyed it and said the chicken was juicy and cooked well.
On the other hand, I could’ve stood for my medium heat tenders to be a tiny bit hotter. Still figuring out preferred heat levels, I guess, but I don’t wanna blow my poor sinuses away, lol. They were tasty, succulent, and large tenders. The fries are nicely executed crinkle cuts and go great with the delicious buttermilk ranch.
I will admit being a little disappointed in the pimento mac and cheese. It was life-changing last go-round, and the flavor was still good, but it was sadly cooked to mush here and the texture was just too soft. Don’t get wrong, still good enough to eat, just not singing to the heavens about it this time.
Overall, a super solid opening from a really fantastic regional, growing chain. Glad to have hot chicken in Huntsville again and looking forward to future visits.
I’ve heard of Nashville’s “Best Chicken Resturaunt” since around Spring 2006, but I’ve never had an opportunity to give it a go. Needless to say, since they now have a local to me place, I’ve been looking forward to trying their fare for myself. After today’s dining experience, I can totally understand why folks love this place.
We each selected 3 Jumbo Tenders, Fried – HOT. He chose the Pimento Mac-n-Cheese; I chose the Crinkle Fries. We also added a single Damn Hot tender to give it a taste.
The HOT is equivalent to Popeye’s Spicy Chicken. The Damn Hot is a very tasty dry rub fried tender which will bring the heat and make the face sweats happen. I am looking forward to giving the Shut The Cluck Up a try on my next visit.
We each opted for soft drinks, but draft beer, mixed drinks, and bar options are available as well.
I give Hattie B’s HSV location a full 7 out of 5 Stars!
