Reviews
They Sell Pizza By The Slice Or Whole Pie, And It’s Definitely Affordable, Which Is Always A Plus.
CHEESE SLICE
Classic And Simple. Could Use A Tad More Sauce And A Bit More Cheese, But The Crust Was Perfect — Not Too Thick, Not Too Thin, With A Nice Bite.
PEPPERONI SLICE
My Son Got The Pepperoni. Same Great Crust, Solid Flavor, And A Good Amount Of Pepperoni. It Just Needed To Be Cooked Longer.
Fast & Super Friendly Service, Which Made It An Easy, No-Hassle Stop. There’s Even A Bar, Seating Area & Arcades Inside To Play That Added a Nice Touch.
Affordable, Convenient, & Solid For A Quick Bite. With Just A Little More Sauce And Cheese, This Would Be A Go-To Slice Spot.
Dear Rob, This was a feedback to the owner. Google reviews does not give an interface to have a dialog of comments back and forth.
There was a caucasian lady, with her toddler, and then me. If you have video, go watch it. As i said, I won’t come inside if this gentleman is inside. I am the customer, and his service was disgusting. You have a place in the heart of Old Town, and even the lady who witnessed this got up and left with me.
I don’t know how you can contact me, and I don’t feel comfortable giving my phone number publicly. Regards!
=======================
I was excited to get my first slice of Pizza in Old Town. I asked for the chicken slice and another white slice and the person behind the counter took the two slices and heated them up for takeout. Just as he boxed the two, I realized there were more pies behind and only 3 pies were displayed in the front.
I asked him if I can switch one of the slices and instead of the white slice take the plain cheese slice with Marinara sauce. I asked him explicitly if its OK to switch since he had already boxed it.
He said yes, and took the white slice and angrily tossed it back onto the rack with other slices, so harshly that the slice slid off and fell on the floor. he then proceeded to take the Marinara slice and boxed it without heating it up, left it on the counter for me and walked away and sat looking at his phone. didn’t even care to say anything.
I wouldn’t go in there again if this gentleman is behind the counter. The pizza tastes good, love it for the delicious taste.
Spontaneously walked in while passing by. I had a slice of cheese and was very pleasantly surprised by how satisfying it was, I bought another slice to go.
The crust was good for folding. The semolina on the bottom was tastefully balanced. The cheese-to-sauce ratio was perfect. It was a really solid NY-style slice of pizza. I would definitely come back and already have it mind to do so during my next trip in to Old Town Alexandria.
Simple pizza menu. The pies were visible right there behind the counter. No fuss. No complaints from me.
Also want to note that Old Town Alexandria is generally a really LGBTQIA+ friendly area, for those travelers/foodies/etc. from elsewhere looking to travel to a queer friendly town/city. Pride flags are common, so for safety reasons, fyi, people are really friendly and welcoming and I’ve had great experiences here. ️⚧️ ️ ❤️
5/5 stars, Handover by the Slice: definitely recommended
They have a cute bar on the top floor. My only ding is that they did not have outdoor seating, which would have been a great touch given their nice corner location.
– place is small on the inside.
– has seating inside but it’s limited.
– prices are normal for the area.
– place was clean and organized.
– overall I honestly wasn’t impressed with the pizza.
I am so grateful for Handover – it’s now possible to walk into Old Town Alexandria with less than $100 to spend and still end up with great food for four! Cheese pizza is $3.50 a slice, everything else (like the one I got) is $4.50. Beer and wine are similarly fairly priced. This is a major destination slice joint, so I’m talking to you DVM! New York-style thin, awesome tomato sauce, crisp crust that I devoured on my walk to the Metro bus stop five minutes away.
Right now, it’s open Sunday-Wednesday 11am-10pm; Thursday 11am-12am; Friday-Saturday 11am- 2am. If Old Town ever becomes enlighten enough to ban sidewalk scooters and encourage a local performance venue (one that can honestly compete with the awesome bands brought to King Street by the Light Horse and Murphy’s), I predict that enjoying a slice from the Handover will be the crowning achievement of a less-expensive but awesome date night in Old Town.
And for those of you over 21, there’s a speakeasy right upstairs! Look online for King’s Ransom: enter via the stairs from The Handover. I’ll say no more.
But Hanover Pizza? This place is seriously awesome. It’s hands-down the best pizza I’ve had in the DMV area. The flavor, the crust—it actually hits that high bar.
I’m giving it an 8 out of 10 for a top, authentic NYC-standard slice. If you’re looking for real pizza, stop scrolling and just go.
