Six stars. The wait staff were super friendly and timely, the service was great. The place itself is super cute and sets a great mood. The food, oh my, the food was amazing. I have not had food that good in a very long time. The warm salad was so, so good. The real star of the night was the lemoncello mascarpone, a perfect way to end the meal. I would think about coming back to Hilton Head just for another meal here.

Cafe Al Dente is an Italian restaurant in Coligny Plaza Shopping Center.

The food is very reasonably priced and service was attentive.

It’s small on the inside – so would recommend a reservation – they also have some outdoor seating.

We did a pre fixe menu – which I really liked – it included an appetizer, main course, and dessert.

Great place in Hilton Head! The food and service is excellent! Amanda was a wonderful host and accommodated our requests. The warm and Caesar salad, the eggplant parmigiana, and rigatoni alla vodka were all amazing. Finish with the limoncello cake and dulce de leche cheesecake!

Truly a hidden gem! My partner and I were completely dejected after having a horrible experience at another local restaurant and stumbled upon Cafe Al Dente as a last minute alternative. We were immediately met with the kindest service by Eileen and her team who ensured our every need was met. They assured us that we were not a burden despite being there right at closing time and provided exceptional recommendations for our meal. Every dish tasted extremely fresh and of great quality. I highly recommend stopping in.

Cozy café-style spot with excellent service and great background music (Sinatra-style and blues). The menu looks impressive and the wine was very good. Food came out quickly—which meant the pasta wasn’t fresh or al dente, disappointing given the restaurant’s name.

Seafood Fra Diavolo had a nice kick but very little seafood, mostly sauce. Salad needed more arugula and seasoning. Lasagna had good flavor but was dry. Eggplant parmigiana was heavy on mozzarella, light on parmigiano and eggplant, and again, the pasta was overcooked.

Nice atmosphere, lovely staff, but the food lacks the depth and seasoning expected from authentic Italian cuisine—especially at these prices.

what a lovely place. nice opportunity to sit outside if you like. small place and therefore i would recommend a reservation. we did not need one because we arrived at 8pm and this place closed 9pm (unfortunately). we had as a starter the calamari with the sauce beside as a dip (therefore the calamari are more crispy and not soggy). as main we had the seafood fra diavolo and the ragatoni a la vodka. i added some shrimp to the ragatoni and i fall in love!

3 points to think about it:
1. water in a plastic cup is a no go
2. bottle of beer without a glass is a no go as well
3. baguette with some olive oil would be benchmark.

if i would be in italy i would rate this place between 3-4 stars just because of my point one and two.

nevertheless, i can highly recommend this place because everything is about food first and than we talk about ambience.

Cafe Al Dente provided an excellent dining experience! The staff was friendly, the atmosphere warm, and the food absolutely delectable. Our table sampled the lobster gnocchi, vodka rigatoni, bolognese, and lasagna rolls. We also started with the meatballs as an appetizer and ended with the dulce de leche cheesecake for dessert. We loved the dessert so much that we ended up ordering more! I can’t recommend this place enough!

Based on island chatter & reviews, my party of 4 was excited to try this restaurant last night. We were sorely disappointed. Every dish was bland and tasted the same.

There was no “wow” factor, no garlic or spices were tasted and all the meals were served warm – not hot. In addition, with pasta dishes in the $26 range, the waitstaff should have offered parmigiano reggiano. There was none offered or served. The $10 bread in the vodka sauce was average & overpriced for what was served. The bolognese had very little meat and again there was no spice to it.

Also, I made a reservation online and said we were celebrating a Birthday. No one mentioned it at all so I would suggest that if you aren’t going to read the reservation booking to take that section off.

For a $200 meal (we did have a $45 bottle of wine) we expected much more of an Italian restaurant that came in from NY.

I’m not sure if I was unlucky but the gluten free pasta was not cooked well. So we sat down the waitress came took out order and in less than 10 minutes the food came out. Hmmm was the food was already pre-made? Didnt like that. Who wants pre-made food? We want fresh food. The meatballs had too much fennel seeds in it. The flavor was overpowering. We ordered some wine. We were have way done with the meal and finally the wine came out. Didn’t like that either. Presentation was nice.

My family and I just enjoyed a delicious meal at Cafe Al Dente of New York on Hilton Head Island, located in Coligny Plaza. We are here on vacation and we are delighted to have stumbled upon this restaurant. The menu has a variety of fabulous dishes to choose from and has something to suit everyone. Everyone in our party said that their food was exceptional and there wasn’t anything left on anyone’s plate. The Cafe Al Dente salad, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Shrimp Scampi and Eggplant Parmigiana were amazing! We will definitely be making another reservation before we leave the area. Service was great and the waiting staff were very friendly and polite. The interior has gorgeous decor and there is also a great outdoor seating area to choose from! Highly recommended and we will definitely be back before we leave!
