Founded in 2020, Blue Canoe is a restaurant and bar in Melvern, Kansas. We’re the place to go for a family gathering, a night out, or on a weekend visit to Melvern Lake. Blue Canoe is located just off I-35, about 45 minutes south of Topeka and just over an hour from the Kansas City metro. Come check out our newly renovated space or relax on our patio!

This is a great small town bar and grill to grab a bite to eat. The meals are home made and delicious, and if you have any room left, the deserts are just as good.

If I could give it a negative star review I would. Took almost 2 hours to get our cold food and then it was burnt! People that arrived 30 minutes after us were receiving their food (also after extended wait) well before we were. Picture is of my “medium rare” steak.

The negative:
Its too pricey for my family to do much to support this local business in our very small town. We order takeout, and regardless of the time we’re given, we always have to wait longer (10-30 minutes longer). Sometimes our order doesn’t come with all of the advertised toppings. The menu is limited.
The positive:
The staff has always been friendly. The food is good. The beef is fresh local butcher. Their limited menu has some creative items that are delicious. Close for melvern lake visitors.
The negative has never stopped us from doing business when we can. I do recommend this small town, off the beaten path restaurant to anyone. 3 stars due to the overall room for improvement.

The food has been good in the past. I remember the salsa being pretty unique and smokey. Tonight the burger was small and unappetizing with cold toppings. The fries were hot but undercooked. My wife and daughter ordered the chicken fried steak. The streak was hot and mediocre but the mashed potatoes were cold. I’m all for supporting a small town restaurant but with food quality like this i won’t be back. Service was on par.

I hadn’t been there yet, so my daughter took us there for my birthday. The food was good and plentiful (I had to have a box). Not too sure about their definition of onion “straws”. I would call the service mediocre. High school students are not particularly attentive as servers.

Nachos were tasteless. Chips were burned. No seasoning on the beef. Chicken club sandwich was ok. Lettuce and red onion were cut in chunks and impossible to keep on the sandwich. French fries are those coated kind and not particularly good. However…the drinks are fabulous!

A MUST if your in the area. We stopped after reading some reviews. The inside is industrial & great music. Now the Chicken Fried Steak Real mashed potatoes Cole Slaw…Slap your face good.
