I was visiting from out of town. Was looking for something off the path and boy did i find it. Looks like an empty building from the outside and there is no sign, but I saw the wooden doors slightly open. The interior is stunning and the food is amazing. I had the Pollo a la vasca. The flavor punched me in the face. I highly recommend you check this place out. Would be excellent for date night.

I was served dirty dishes, had to move seats because of roaches, couldn’t leave because they had card reader issues, and above all had to pay $250 for their Valentine’s Day experience. Saving grace was our waitress and the steak. Overall very disappointed especially at that price. Do not recommend and will not be returning.

Dirty dishes, roaches, and technically difficulties.

Short version: I was served dirty dishes, had to move seats because of roaches, couldn’t leave because they had card reader issues, and paid $250 for that kind of experience.

Long version: I gave it some time before writing this so I could be as objective as possible about this. They had a Valentine’s Day dinner special which came out to about $200. I had no issue with this because I understood this was a place of quality so I figured it was a reasonable price for two people. Upon arriving it was very nice inside, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. My first issue was that they had a drink menu written out on a note pad and only after I ordered something did they tell me it was not included in the original $200. That’s fine, so I got something for my partner and two waters one for each of us. $50. Okay, I am annoyed but I understand, drinks are expensive, but I don’t personally agree with charging $10 for water. Our drinks arrive and my glass is very visibly dirty. I am not one to complain so I first just started to wipe it myself with the napkin they gave us but it wasn’t coming out as it was crusted over. My partner suggests I just ask for a new one so I do. The waitress was very kind, apologized and brought me a new one. This one was clearly attempted to have been washed but still dirty. I mentioned it again and the waitress attempted to wipe it herself, and it remained dirty but I was not going to ask them to bring me a third one.
Our food arrived and I can’t complain, it was delicious, one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Unfortunately that memory is tainted as, while my partner and I were eating, she said she had spotted a cockroach. I didn’t initially see it so I was a bit skeptical. A moment later I saw it crawl across the counter we were sat against and I called the waitress over to ask if we could be moved because there was a live roach. She seemed a bit shocked and again much to her credit she moved us to another table and apologized. At this point my partner and I had lost most of our appetite because it’s hard to imagine between the roaches and the dirty dishes what else could have crawled on our food in their kitchen. At this point we were eager to take our leave and so we asked for the bill. They took my card and apparently there were some technical difficulties with their card reader, so we sat there quite uncomfortably as we watched almost everyone else leave for about 30-45 minutes extra only for them to tell me they couldn’t use my card and that they would send me an invoice to pay through my phone. I am very disappointed because I heard good things but I could not have expected all that happened. Not a very romantic valentines evening eh? Despite their good food and their kind waitress, I don’t think I could recommend this place.

Hidden gem in Laredo, Texas. If you want to visit Spain without having to leave your town, this is the place. A reduced but well planned menu which offers a variety of Spanish food, including paella, charcuterie, wine and some beer. Family friendly but at the same time can be used for a romantic date. Sometimes they play live music (bohemian mainly but have seen they sometimes bring Flamenco shows too). Something different from the rest of bars where the same music plays over and over. It’s worth mentioning that the entrance was not very easy to find, since they keep the door closed, but once you open it, you’re transported to the other side of the world.

We had such an amazing evening here on our first visit. Had Serrano ham manchengo cheese and olive appetizer. I had a variety of red wines and my husband tried different beers. For our entrees we had the paella and the steak both dishes were beyond delicious. We were planning on just stopping in for dinner and a glass of wine but ended up staying for the live music. The food and service were spectacular but the ambiance was unmatched especially in Laredo.

It was our first time to this establishment. I was under the impression we needed reservations, because we were turned back the last time for not making reservations. They’re only open Fri, Sat, & Sun from 7pm to 12 i believe. No 1 answered the phone before to make the reservation nor did I get a call back (I left a message)
ANYWAYS. We decided to just go again and see what happens. Located in a very run down part of the city, as soon as you walk in though the doors, you’re in another place. You forget about the outside world. The atmosphere is the best part. I’ll go as far as to say “The best in Laredo”. The food was great too.
The chicken and shrimp sherry/lemon/buttery sauce is to to die for! The Lopez plate, presented in what I think is an oak barrel plate, had a nice blend of cold meats, cheese, and olives. Spicy potatoes could have been a bit spicier, but still inviting. I loved the calamari. All washed down with a pitcher of refreshing Sangria. We shared a Flan just to try it out. Not a bad way of topping dinner off. The portions were good. Just note that the flan is more of a personal size. Service wasn’t as good as the food, but hey it’s laredo. We ran low on our water, and took about 30mins to pick up the tab (the card was sticking out and at the edge of the table for that long) There was maybe 5 tables tops, so I don’t see what excuse they would use for overseeing this. We didn’t mind, again the Live music was welcoming.
As we existed the doors, we were Slapped in the face with the stench of raw sewerage. It basically said “Welcome back to Laredo’s downtown” I can’t blame them for this. This is a city problem. The Bars on It street, the Tack room, etc they all suffer from this… So if you’re looking for a romantic dinner with live entertainment, and excellent food, AND are unfortunate enough to be stuck in Laredo, I highly recommend Casa Lopez. Great Work Guys!!

A Jazz band was playing tonight. Great ambiance! Really enjoyed it. They were out of select menu items. Over priced bottles of wine. Small portions. Mashed potatoes had no flavor.

We hadn’t been here in a long while. We normally go to Tabernilla be We figured we try something different. Major disappointment. We were greeted right away and sat at a nice table. And as always, the place is lovely. There was a live band playing nice jazz BUT, it was way too loud. We literally could hear ourselves have a conversation. We wanted to try some wines. We asked our waiter for a wine manu and he informed us that they didn’t have a wine menu. He suggested that we try a sampler. We figured we were getting a sample board, but rather it was just a small shot of some wine that he didn’t even know the name. So we decided to just get beer. My wife ordered a sangria. We asked for Estrella Spanish beer and they didn’t have it. We asked for a beer menu and waiter said they didn’t have one but we were welcome to step up to the bar to see what beers they had. At that point we were getting frustrated. We asked for some food. While he was taking the order, being that he wasn’t very knowledgeable, we decided to just order two items and asked that he cancel the third item. Took forever to get our drinks. My wife’s sangria was mostly ice. We asked for another beer. He brought the food and sure enough, he brought the third item we had canceled. By this time we decided to just eat and leave. We asked for the tab and he over charged the other couple that we were with. And, he didn’t charge me for the sangria. I’m not that type of person, so I showed him that he didn’t charge me the sangria.

It’s a shame, this place is beautiful but it just lacks some details to make it great.

Every Thursday, we eagerly anticipate our visits to enjoy the lively atmosphere filled with captivating live music. It’s become a cherished tradition for us, as we’ve been to this place countless times—I’ve honestly lost count of our visits! One of my personal favorites is the pollo a la vasca; its rich flavors and perfectly cooked chicken never fail to impress. Additionally, the sangria is absolutely delightful, striking the perfect balance of sweetness and refreshment. The ambience truly enhances the experience, with its vibrant decor and welcoming vibe making it an ideal spot for relaxation and enjoyment.
