I went to Mariposa fully expecting nothing special because who assumes a restaurant inside a department store will impress. I was wrong. This place is an experience. Finding it feels like a scavenger hunt inside Neiman Marcus at La Cantera. If you blink you will miss it. Walking up the escalator with white butterflies floating above already sets the mood. The second floor feels calm and hidden which makes the reveal even better.
Once inside the space is bright and peaceful with windows wrapping around the dining room. We were greeted with warm popovers and broth which alone are worth returning for. I ordered the salmon fish tacos with chips pico and salsa. They were excellent. Many places try and fail at fish tacos but these were balanced flavorful and perfectly cooked. My husband ordered the pear and gorgonzola salad with salmon and loved it.
The view feels tucked away in nature with trees as the backdrop. Service was warm attentive and polished. We will absolutely be back. This one surprised me in the best way.

This nice restaurant is inside Neiman Marcus. Tasted fantastic and ambiance was terrific. We opted for the bar to avoid any wait. The club sandwich was so delicious and bread was soft. Burger very juicy. Side note, that broth was SO good, surprisingly!
Some cons – pricey for the food. I didn’t like the fries, I prefer skinny fries.
Overall, we’d be back for something simple and dainty. Bar server was nice and refilled our drinks promptly.

In My Opinion
This place is beautiful and chic. I love it here. The service is always impeccable right from the start. We are always greeted so nicely and thoughtfully. One might ask how it can be thoughtful but when I’m given a black napkin rather than a white one so as not to leave lint on my pants and my son is acknowledged when most children aren’t, it’s thoughtful. It’s a level of service you don’t find anymore.
The popovers are so light and flaky. They just melt in your mouth. The whipped strawberry butter is so creamy and sweet and soft. It’s whipped perfection. The broth was so warm and salty. It made me feel so good. I’d go back just for that. Dipping the popover in the broth made them both so much better!
The eggs Benny with bacon was so rich and decadent and creamy. I could only eat one and boxed the other for later. The bacon was thick and meaty. It was so salty and it paired wonderfully with the avocado. The egg was 10/10 perfect! A nice little side of fruit and home fries came with the meal which totally made the meal complete.
The burger was so good I barely got a photo! Clearly we were eager to get to it judging by the hole poked on the top. It was perfectly cooked to a medium. The cheese was meaty and gooey and every bite was so satisfying. Their truffle fries are always a must!

We came here for lunch during a weekday and it wasn’t too busy. The ambience was very vibrant and happy. As soon as we sat, the waitress brought us a hot and small tea cup of broth to sip while we decide what to drink and eat. The broth was really delicious. They also give you fresh and soft bread with butter. I wasn’t impressed with the unsweetened spiced iced tea but the salmon tacos I ate was definitely delicious and very enjoyable.

It eas actually my favorite work spot….and today my wife and I chose to wear Christmas attire…..based on our attire we were treated way different.
This is a cafe and not a 5 star restaurant.
I can say that the service is HORRID!
We are amazing tippers and today I did not TIP how I normally do based on the fact that I will not enable bad behavior.
The service is NOT the same and I can gurantee this place will be closed very soon should this behavior continue.
Won’t be coming back, so so sad
Oh and I think I can afford a $40 meal…. To comp it after I asked the manager not to is insulting.
Fix your customer service so you don’t need to comp meals.

We stopped to eat here just because we happened to be shopping there when we got hungry, I was unaware of this place until today and I’m so glad we found it. The salmon tacos are unbelievable BUT THE CHIPS, THE CHIPS are on a whole other level of deliciousness. I need to find out where they get them from or what company makes them so i can buy an entire sack of them. Also, the Lemonade was yummy, perfect balance of sweet, super nice staff. Definitely going back soon. ORDER THE CHIPS!

I have places I like to eat at, but Mariposa is now my favorite. The menu is big enough to keep you engaged, is not overwhelming, offers excellent selections. The floorplan is done well and despite it’s small footprint offers an environment that makes you feel as though you are in your own world. Service was excellent and the wait staff is attendant without being intrusive. My food came out promptly and displayed well.

I’ve been to Mariposa multiple times, which is located on the second floor of NM at La Cantera. They have a great menu selection, including some excellent salads, as well as sandwiches and entrees. The healthy choice items are even marked with the macros they contain! A nice touch that is definitely appreciated. The consommé served before the meal, along with their pop pastry with strawberry butter are both amazing. Personally, I can’t have the pop pastry due to having Celiac Disease, but everyone I’ve gone with raves about it. I have tried the butter though, which has a gentle sweetness that isn’t overwhelming. The seared salmon salad is an easy 10/10, with artichokes, hearts of palm and goat cheese on top of the tender salmon itself. My only complaint was the house-made creme brûlée, which was not tempered correctly, which led to a flan-like consistency, but not as good. There were chunks of custard as opposed to a nice creamy texture, and the flavor of Texas honey was lacking as well. Our server Rose was outstanding, even with being so busy. I do wish they’d bring back their gluten-free flourless cake. It would be made on the spot and had about a 10-15 minute wait due to this. It was hands down the best flourless cake I’ve ever had, shame they got rid of it.
