Ted’s Fried Clams is a legendary seafood destination that was founded in 1950. It was owned and operated by 3 generations of the Mavrakos family until 2023.
The restaurant is being revied under new ownership and set to reopen on May 1, 2026.
Under its new ownership, Ted’s will undergo interior improvements while maintaining the classic character that made it a Maine landmark. The reopened Ted’s will feature classic menu items, vintage recipes, take-out, and lunch counter service.
We’re gonna be staying true to our roots and building off 75+ years of success. We look forward to sharing the Ted’s Fried Clams experience with the next generation.

Ordered French fries, cheese pizza, potato pizza, and also the Big Mac pizza. The fries are super super soggy, and kind of brown from the oil? The cheese pizza was great, my son loved it. The potato one had great flavor, the same as the Big Mac one. I’d definitely recommend those but I’d encourage Ted’s to cook the dough a smidge longer. It was in spots a little undercooked, but on the bottom perfectly cooked. Perhaps a temperature or timing adjustment? The prices are pretty solid, lower than most places for specialty pizzas. The owner and employees are also very kind and friendly.

I worked in many seafood restaurants, my whole life doing prep work so I know what it goes and to making food and what it takes Sad to say I probably won’t be going here again. Got their small order of clam strips. They didn’t even clean them properly. I was biting into them and almost broke my tooth on a piece of clamshell that they didn’t clean out plus, a lot of my clams still had the necks on them chewy rubbery garbage very disappointed I wouldn’t recommend going here multiple times and wasting your money. The owner definitely needs a good sermon on how to properly prepare your food and not overcook it. Also, the tartar sauce was bland very mediocre. Sorry to say but This place will not last another five years guaranteed. If you can’t cook it right the first time you won’t cook it right the second time same with anything in life.

New owners are trying! However, there were several issues. Mostly with staff not sure of their roles, food took a while. When we were leaving they run out of propane and had to close for the night. Leaving several customers without food. Granted they were taking names to makeup there mistake. Hopefully they will pull things together. Food was good, just need to organize.

Had breakfast here for the first time. It was delicious. The servers and host were very friendly. New head chef Melissa came out and greeted us after we complimented her dishes. She is very friendly and upbeat, we can’t wait to try her breakfast specials.

Pulled pork was actually chopped, not pulled. Was low quality
Fries were decent, nothing special.
Expensive for the quantity and quality provided.
Fast, quality service. Food was ready within minutes
Phenomenal milk shake flavor, but consistency was closer to cold milk.

Definitely not worth the price almost 100 dollars for the total price after door dash for this, 43 dollars for the second picture alone, totally rude manager when trying to address this issues.,as a manager in fast food and restaurant service for over 25 years I would be embarrassed to serve this and fire any employees that treated a customer so badly…. food was even soggy and inedible.. sorry I’m a difficult customer but I expect what I pay for….. Prime restaurant for Gordon Ramsay kitchen nightmares people can believe what they choose it is what it is obviously this restaurant is going to post what they choose to defend themselves… These pictures are what I ordered

Rock House ice cream, attached to Ted’s, has a really fun atmosphere, with enough people to add to the atmosphere, but not enough to make the wait an issue. The Maine black bear, blueberry pie, and black raspberry flavors were all great.

I spent 9 days in Maine this past 2 weeks looking for a great place to eat fried clams… passed several by and on my last day in Maine, happend up Ted’s Fried Clams. What a serendipity! Folks were friendly, place was spotless, service was almost immediate and I had the best clams and scallops ever! Can’t recommend it enough… BTW, my friend and I ordered separately and I am very sure we could have split just one of those meals. I am a big eater and couldn’t finish my plate and wish I hadn’t tried… but it was so good, I kept eating. Seriously, split a plate if you are eating with someone. I guess if I have one suggestion, the woman that took my order could have looked at me (I may be a big eater but I’m skinny and 5’6″) and said “This is a lot of food Dude…” I still have no regrets and will go back if I’m in the neighborhood.

I just had my first meal at Ted’s. It was a takeout order. I had a lobster roll and onion rings and it was the best lobster roll I’ve ever had. It was full up of fresh lobster and the onion rings were a huge portion and delicious. I will definitely frequent this restaurant from now on. Very pleased with how quick the service was and how friendly the staff was as well. I’ll be back for more.

Exceptional service! Woman behind the counter is lovely, very helpful and efficient. Packaging is nice. Horrible food. The scallops were the best part and they were fried in a manner that none of the four of us had seen before. We got chicken tenders and they were burnt or fried in black oil, had to cover the taste by smothering it in honey mustard and even then ended up throwing most of it away. Unsalted, cold fries but it was a pickup order so maybe we were late. Clearly it was made without either knowledge or care. Try your own food before you serve it, please, guys.
I’m very sorry but I’ve been here twice and I won’t be coming back— if only the food was as good as the service. We only came here since the Third Alarm is closed on Sundays 🙁
