Such a fun place! Amazing owner with many good stories to tell about sourdough ideas or how she came to own the place!
Food was spectacular! Service was great! Highly recommend for a meal out, you’re new daily spot or fun stop along the way to your next destination.

We decided to give this place a try based on the reviews and my husband’s love of homemade chicken fried steak. When we walked in, we almost left based on the “interesting” smell in the place, which might be from the sourdough starter they make and sell here. Based on other reviews, we decided to stay and glad we did. The chicken fried steak was huge. He said it was almost too thick. The gravy was good as well. The sour dough bread was tasty but a bit too hard. I wanted the Ruben but they were out of rye bread so opted for the mushroom, Swiss burger. It was very good. I also loved the hand cut fries which were super brown and crispy. Not how everyone would want them, but cooked my favorite way! The environment is different with the old train car they have cut in half and placed around a building to make the restaurant. Service was very friendly!

Came here on accident. Had been on the road several hours and just wanted some home cooking. The food was AMAZING! Place could have been cleaner tho. Cups looked like they had dried on soap. No ice in the water. Table felt sticky no matter how many times you washed it off. Some things were REALLY dusty. The waitress was really friendly and just wanted to make sure you got what you wanted. There didn’t seem to be uniforms for the staff or much of a dress/hygiene code. I loved the fries, they didn’t have BBQ sauce tho but the fry sauce was epic! I couldn’t even finish my burger it was so large and filling. My mom loved the corned beef hash and I even enjoyed the sourdough and I’m not really a sourdough person!
Was a little pricey but worth it for the homemade and heart made taste!

Surprisingly good! Lots of veggies in the omelet, yummy toast with butter and tons of hash browns! The dining area looks a little questionable but it was good food and the staff is friendly.

Wow! We hit The Mother Lode! Both literally and figuratively. Such good food, great service, fun conversation, colorful regulars and a great local dining establishment. We had half order of sourdough biscuits and gravy, sausage and egg sourdough breakfast sandwich and a side of sourdough huckleberry pancakes. See the theme!? All from scratch and everything was delicious. Worth a stop for breakfast or lunch.

Stopped in this morning to start the final leg of a cross-country drive and I’m glad I did! The chicken fried steak was DELICIOUS. Thick piece, not greasy at all and great flavor. The scratch gravy was a perfect accompaniment. It also came with silver dollar pancakes which are sourdough. Personally, I wasn’t into them, but that’s not on the restaurant. I tried something I’ve never had before and it wasn’t for me. But the pancakes were perfectly made and certainly a little larger than silver dollars!
This is two old train cars put together. Nothing fancy here. Just really good food, good service and good people. If you’re around the area you should absolutely stop in here.

Don’t let appearances fool you. The food was hot, homemade, and delicious. Portions were super generous—one entree can feed two people. The waitress was helpful and accommodating. High marks for the French Dip which was a stand out and the au jus was some of the most delicious we’ve ever tasted!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again! The Mother Lode has ruined chicken fried steak for me. I can’t go anywhere for a chicken fried steak because none come even close to how good it is at The Mother Lode!
The meat is thick and super tender. Great ratio between meat and breading. Gravy is perfectly peppered.
Top it off with a homemade sourdough English muffin and hash browns or sourdough pancakes!!
To my friends traveling and find themselves stretching their legs in Baker City, and the same to the locals, make sure to grab a bite at The Mother Lode!
(This was a half order btw! I had my fill and still had enough to take home!)

It’s a little hard to spot coming off the freeway so if you may miss it the first time you drive by. My husband had the corned beef hash and I had a Reuben. It was possibly the best corned beef either of us has had, tender and flavorful. The secret, we were told, is to cook it overnight so that all of the fat has time to render. Add that to the homemade sourdough bread and pancakes and you have a reason to time your trip to have breakfast or lunch at The Mother Lode.

Almost missed it, looks like 2 train cars together, pretty cool use of cars. If you like homemade sourdough this is your place. If you are not a fan of sourdough don’t order the pancakes. Good serving sizes and service. Omelets are really good. Breakfast all day.
