First time here but felt ao familiar, likely because of the friendly staff who were very welcoming and attentive, and knew many of the other patrons who came to dine in.
*Additionally, this restaurant plays a good selection of modern Japanese music, for anyone that is interested to know!

Best sushi I’ve had in the US. Which is a huge ask. Had sushi in every major US city including Hawaii. Musasi is fresher and more perfect than any of them. Locally owned. When they have blue fin tuna get it. Their bento lunch box is an exquisite feast and affordable. Staff is so kind and caring and the food is unmatched.

I’m not sure what they were going for with my order but it was terrible. The volcano roll was mushy and unappetizing and was doused in sauce. The spicy California roll was not spicy but instead a regular California roll. Then the salmon skin was the cherry on the top. Instead of a crispy skin, it was chopped/mushed up salmon pieces or some other unidentified fish that had an expired smell. All in all, I couldn’t finished my rolls. The only thing I could eat was the gyoza that became cold since the wait for my sushi took longer than usual. I will not return

I walked into a full restaurant but the chef welcomed me to the bar. Everything was so fresh! You could tell the sushi ingredients had never been frozen and was well worth the couple extra dollars. The chef was delightful and a true food artist. I was very happy with the suggestions he made. The blue fin tuna was especially amazing and just melted in my mouth. The dragon roll is a classic for sure and the Chirashi could have been presented in a gallery. I’ll definitely be going there again!

I didn’t eat rolls and kitchen, but sushi probably very close to highest quality that I eaten in US. Definitely this is the best in VA.

Saba tasty as well as squid. You can tell that they picked real fresh fish. Tuna was a regural selection but I am also not fan of otoro cut.

It is freshly cut and properly cut as well. Rice was as supposed to be but I am assuming they use Nishiki but still made properly and good.

Good selection of fresh fish.

Place looking great, very cozy and well made with a lot of details.

お仕事頑張って!

So good! I had the sushi deluxe two night in a row. My husband as well. Friends had the spicy udon noodle, sashimi deluxe, and a chicken and vegetable dish that were all excellent. The steamed dumplings were excellent

Went on Monday and was definitely underwhelmed. Read the reviews on service, they are spot on. Sushi chef is great, professional, and creates good sushi, but that’s about it. Prices are high for what you get. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura $16 and this is what I got. 2pcs of shrimp, 2pcs of vegetable. Wow. Unfortunately I went again with a group on Wednesday who wanted to try and service/prices just killed it. One of our group ordered the “meal” tempura (which was what I thought I got on Monday) and the waitress said “I remember you, you got appetizer size not meal”…I said ok fine and tried to eat. 10min later she came back with my order from Monday and kept saying “see” “see”…I said ok, I’m ok…she kept calling me confused and I just wanted to enjoy my $30 roll combo. (See picture). Unless you’re stuck in that area, there are much better locations. Again, read the reviews and decide…but we’ll never go back.

Some of the best sushi we have had in YEARS! What a great local gem. The regular menu is also delicious, the shrimp fried rice is amazing, with each portion being made to order. We had several orders of the rice for the table and the waitress apologized for the wait, stating that each portion was cooked to order, which was not a problem! Cant rush perfection! Friendly staff and always a delight to enjoy a meal here.

First impression:
The place needs a good cleaning and some better lighting.

Service:
Our server was very helpful and nice. The chef even came out and spoke to us to see how our meal was.

Food:
The house salad dressing was yummy. Miso is boring imo so I won’t bother giving you my opinion on Musasi’s take on it. We got the smaller of the two boats, and shrimp fried rice. My partner liked the rice, I found it a bit bland and a little oily. The shrimp was cooked well.

Overall:
I love sushi and I would say this place is just okay. I would still go back and give them another chance because the staff seems to genuinely care. Perhaps it was just an “off” night for them.
