Ate here last night and it was terrible. Ordered a $15 martini and it was not even fill to the brim. My husband and I shared Oysters Rockefeller, they were loaded with so much cheese you couldn’t even find the oyster. I had the Shrimp Mediterranean in a marinara sauce which was definitely from a can! The shrimp was tough and the sauce was horrible. My husband had the prime rib which he said was ok. It was pricey and not worth the money we spent. We will not be back.

My husband and I just wanted something light, so we went to the bar. He had rum and coke and onion soup; I had a glass of wine and shrimp cocktail. The prices were great for the quality of the food. The onion soup was delicious and the shrimp cocktail was fresh, not frozen. Excellent. The woman bartender was friendly as well. Definitely an older crowd (like us!), and the venue is dated. But, we’ll be back for sure.

Beautiful restaurant with great food, but service was very slow.
Arrived on Christmas Eve for dinner and was seated promptly after a small mix up, comical and funny.
Was approached within minutes of being seated by a waitress who took our drink order, followed by another waitress just a few minutes later who again wanted to take our drink order. Drinks arrived promptly, but this is where promptly ended. It took about 45 minutes before our appetizers arrived and then another 35 minutes for our dinners. Now this is a special occasion and we are not rushed, but if they would only made eye contact or mention the kitchen was backed up, it would of been appreciated. Now to the food, absolutely top notch. Baked stuffed Shrimp, Veal Cordon Bleau and Rack of Lamb, all rated a perfect 10.
No room for desserts as we have plenty waiting for us at home. This place was decorated beautifully and this review only suffers from a waitress who may of been just a little overwhelmed with all of her tables, so this is in no way anything negative by the evening experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a special evening out. My only recommendation would be to upgrade the menus, as they were worn papers that didn’t go with the beautiful atmosphere, but again only a suggestion.

Brought my boyfriend here tonight to celebrate his birthday. He loves histrionic homes.
The atmosphere was wonder. The food not so much. We got raw oysters that had sand and shells still in them they were not perched to get out the sand and shells. Then got the prime rib with potatoes and green beans. The potatoes where instant potatoes and the green beans were frozen green beans. The prime rib wasn’t fresh it tasted like it had been cooked the day before and refrigerated or frozen then unthawed. The grape nut custard was very watery which it is not supposed to be like. It was a frozen custard unthawed. For what I paid for this dinner ( over 200.00$). I would have thought the food would have been soooo much better. The pictures may look like the food was good but honestly it wasn’t. Don’t think we’ll be going back.

I will at some point hopefully get to visit your establishment to eat but I want to compliment the kindness on one of your staff who I encountered in your parking lot yesterday. I was trying to find a particular address and he very kindly used Google and pointed me in the correct direction. He also wished me a good day. If this is any indication of your actual service, I will definitely be checking out your establishment soon! Thank you to this kind soul! I wish I caught his name! The Kingston House has been one of our favorite restaurants for almost 30 years. The menu is diverse, the portions and food quality are outstanding, and the ambiance is a walk back in history. And a hint – if you have a romantic evening for two planned, asked for Table 19, and thank me later!

Enjoyed our experience, the prime rib was the best anywhere! The actual chicken parm was delicious! The service was excellent. The people were more than friendly! I would only say the table should have a table cloth for a fine dining experience! All in all I give a 10!

We came without reservations early Friday night, the parking lot was almost full, but we were seated in a very quiet room facing the side street. Only when we were leaving did other folks show up in our room. Our waitress was very pleasant.
The prime rib was thin, but very tender, which my husband liked the best. Only one side came with the dish which was disappointing, considering most places give you two.
So opted to have their clam chowder before our dinner. It was worth the price.
To be honest, we were actually looking for another old restaurant in Kingston but got confused because of the town was holding its annual fair.
We will be back another time.

The quiet, dining room in “the Barn” made the perfect evening to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday dinner. Three gals accommodating everyone in the place did not delay the meal, drinks or desserts. I’ve waited longer for service with three times the staff in other restaurants! Personable and attentive. The prime rib was outstanding. Vegetables grown in the owner’s (chef) garden. Good portion and good drinks. I’m coming back with more family! Thanks 1686!

We were there for our 56th Anniversary. The meal and service were great. We sat in the Tavern. We go there every year and have never been disappointed. This year was especially awesome because a wonderful person paid for our meal and it wasn’t cheap.. who does that? What a wonderful surprise.
