Right in line with “Diners and Dives”! The building and decor is nothing to write home about, but the food is good. Large portions of tender smokey meats and generous sides. Woody serves up some tasty vittles!

This is a truly unique small town gem. The food is amazing. But I’ll warn you if your looking for fancy, upscale dining this is not that place. This is good old fashioned southern roadside barbecue with no frills and no fuss. You get your own drinks, bus your own table and pick up your order at the counter. Did I mention the food is amazing! Indoor and outdoor dining. CASH ONLY. Simple menu with all your favorites and so much food you will want to but may not be able to eat it all.

I ate at the Smokin’ Woody’s in Chicago and it’s the damn best bbq you’ll ever eat. Woody was supposed to come back but, he never did. I’ve had famous places like SmoQue and Smoke Daddy along with other quality establishments, but there is only one Smokin’ Woody’s.

What a great and real experience. Grab a drink, find a seat and yell what you want. Ribs dinner was good. Delicious and plentiful. Sides change. This time Beans, baked potato and Cole slaw. All were very tasty. The grilled cheese was also good for the non-meat option. Everything is made by the owner, Woody. Woody is great. Always an adventure. We came back 3 years in. Row. A MUST place for our vacation. Cash Only.

Small local business but very unique place. We are visiting Sawyer a lot but that was first time dinning here and we are happy that we did because the Tips of the ribs was amazing and the pork barbeque also. Very tasty, juicy and finger liking delicious. Thanks to the owner who put a lot of heart and effort into to his work. Support the small local business and try the food they are prepared. Btw the owner is very friendly to.

An Unforgettable Meal and Atmosphere at Smokin’ Woody’s
It’s not often that I take the time to praise a restaurant, but Smokin’ Woody’s is a true gem that deserves all the compliments. Located just minutes off I-94 in Sawyer, Michigan, this spot offers more than just incredible food—it provides an experience defined by a warm atmosphere and genuine hospitality.
The menu is a carnivore’s dream, featuring an array of outstanding options. Don’t miss the smoked brisket, which is phenomenal with its special BBQ sauce, and be sure to try the crispy crinkle-cut fries and rib tips. Other highlights include the juicy smoked turkey sandwich, half-smoked chicken, BBQ ribs, and steaks. Sides like the delicious baked beans and coleslaw are the perfect accompaniment, but the real showstopper is Woody’s homemade Apple or Blueberry pie, an absolute knockout winner.
Owner Michael, affectionately known as “Smokemaster Mike” or just “Woody” to his friends, comes from a family with a deep-rooted history in the restaurant industry. He’s a highly decorated and trained chef, but his passion for excellent barbecue is what shines through at Smokin’ Woody’s. He’s constantly smoking meats with a special selection of woods like cherry, apple, and hickory, and his proprietary recipes are simply phenomenal. His love for both great food and people is evident in every detail.
While the food is reason enough to visit, the friendly atmosphere truly makes Smokin’ Woody’s special. The open conversations among customers create a scene straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting, capturing the heartwarming essence of a small Midwest town. Regulars love to share stories, and Woody greets everyone with a smile and a level of care that feels all too rare these days.
Smokin’ Woody’s has more regular hours during the summer, but it’s a good idea to call ahead to secure a table or order some finger-lickin’ ribs for takeout. The restaurant is cash only, so stop by the cash station ahead. Take your meal to go and enjoy it by the lake, but I’m confident you’ll enjoy the experience so much that you’ll be telling your friends all about a person almost bigger than life… Smokin’ Woody!

If you’re thinking about going here, you should! Delicious food, all around, and large portions! We had chicken and ribs. We were looking for quick food after a beach day and this was a way better choice than fast food. Very friendly staff and laid back outdoor seating.

The almighty woody who thinks he is a BBQ master is a joke. Coleslaw is from Gordon. So call home made apple pie is from Myers. The meat is dry and loaded with BBQ to hide how long been sitting in the back. The kitchen looks like a dirty mess. Definitely doubt he washes his hands. Dude, sit there and try to talk like he is someone important. Another chubby guy said use to be better when he had help. But he got tire being treated like crap and been gone. Don’t blame him. Cant even sit in peace with his yelling or comment he made to my gf. Definitely need a lesson of respect.
