Wow this place is amazing! Great ambiance, great customer service and delicious food to top it all off. Fried Kalo? YES, please! Also, one of the best burgers I’ve had in a long time. Wife had the pork belly plate which was delicious as well. Oh dessert…..could barely walk out of there. Everyone working there is awesome, and they work as a team which makes the customer experience even better. Definitely will be back!

Honestly, this was the best meal we’ve had in Hawaii so far. We were a little hesitant at first since it’s located inside a museum/planetarium, but we’re so glad we decided to give it a try.
I ordered the Pork Belly Bowl and my wife had the Mahi Mahi—both dishes were absolutely incredible. For dessert, we shared the dessert lumpia, and even though I couldn’t tell you exactly what was in it, it was fantastic.
Our server, Cody, was also amazing—super friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Big shout-out to him for making the experience even better.

This restaurant is incredible, the ambience is nice and cozy, they had hawaiian live music which was beautiful. It all looked brand new and very clean.
The service was a little bit slow, taking a while for things to get to our table but still the staff was very friendly.
The food is incredible, very well seasoned and delicious, we couldn’t be happier with our food orders. We’ll definitely come back anytime we’re in Hilo.
Aloha!

This was the freshest food I’ve ever had! I’ve never had li hing mui on a dessert like this (strawberry puff pastry with ice cream they made as well) so that was honestly my favorite part of the meal. For dinner, we had the fresh catch of the day and the pork special they had that night. The pork is unlike any pork I’ve ever had. If you’re ever on the Big Island, definitely make reservations for dinner here. We stayed on the Kona side but the 1 hour, 30 minutes drive was worth it for a meal I will never forget and not find anywhere else.

Absolutely unexpected find – we stumbled on this place when searching for dinner and it was amazing. Truly unique food with Japanese and island influences, incredible flavors, delicious bread, fantastic service and fun and unique drink menu with a pickled mango martini (try it!). And the live Hawaiian music was the perfect accompaniment to dinner.

We first discovered Lehua Restaurant in Hilo after seeing them featured in a Bon Appétit video, and knew we wanted to go there for our anniversary dinner. Their farm-to-table approach shines through in every dish— everything was so fresh, flavorful, and combined traditional Hawaiian flavors with a modern twist in every dish.

We started with the New Zealand green mussels in a sake Asian pesto broth, paired with Kaunamano Farms sausage, which set the tone for the night— rich, savory, and unlike any mussels I’ve had before.

The panko-crusted calamari steak was another standout, paired with tomato poke, sweet chili aioli, and unagi— such a creative twist on a classic.

For our main, we shared the fresh whole Opakapaka, served with watercress and spinach salad plus seasonal banchans (seaweed salad, Korean noodles, and kimchi) which was cooked to perfection. The tagliatelle pasta with roasted zucchini and peppers in a white wine butter sauce was light and the perfect side to have with the fish. And to finish, the kulolo lumpia with Lappert’s Kaua’i Pie ice cream was the perfect balance of crispy, creamy, and sweet while the decadent banana bread with banana ice cream and banana brûlée was an indulgent finale.

The atmosphere was just as perfect, with beautiful live music setting the tone for such a warm, welcoming evening. Our waitress was so kind and attentive, recommending drinks and menu items right away. When I mentioned that I was pregnant, she instantly shifted to thoughtful non-alcoholic options that weren’t even listed on the menu. The sweetest touch was at the end of the night when the entire staff signed a card congratulating Conner and I on our new addition to our family. It was such a heartfelt surprise that made the experience unforgettable.

Between the incredible food, the genuine hospitality, and the special touches, Lehua Restaurant is truly a hidden gem in Hilo. I can’t recommend it enough! Mahalo

We were looking for a nice place that served fish and we weren’t disappointed! We really enjoyed fried breadfruit to start (off menu selection due to no kalo that night) and my husband loved his mahi mahi and my pasta was lovely. The star of the show was their strawberry pastry dessert with ice cream. The flavour of the night was toasted coconut ice cream and the chef makes it from scratch. It was to die for!
Service was great and we really enjoyed the live music too. It wasn’t too loud and matched the vibe.

Mixed experience. Pleasent dining area. Relatively quiet. Easy to converse. Average wine choices. My date’s steak was flavorful but tough. My burger was good. The fries had so much salt I initially thought it might have been a joke. Our desserts were amazing. Kulolo lumpia and ice cream, strawberry tart, both delicious. The waitress was attentive and sweet. Probably better menu choices then we made.

Excellent wait staff, very attentive. Beautiful atmosphere with large 180° windows to view the gardens with local live music performer. The food was good, if not over-salted. However, the kitchen staff could be heard on the dining floor speaking about their personal lives and the diners, including cussing and profanity. This aspect really diminished the entire experience.
