Open since July, the Leather Helmet Grill in downtown Canton may be unknown to many local foodies. Stark County native Tom Ascani has opened the bar and restaurant in the former Downtowner Motor Inns hotel, which closed in the 1970s. Food is plentiful and affordable at the Leather Helmet Grill, including sausage subs, pulled pork sandwiches, homemade soup and Coney dogs.

10 people in the restaurant and the cook was overwhelmed and couldn’t cook anymore meals. Service was extremely slow. French fries while plentiful were mediocre at best. Would not recommend wasting your time.

Imagine walking back in time and you step into a hotel lobby bar from the late 70s/ early 80s. The decor is amazing. Plus they have tons of ‘dad” beers.

Very nice place. food is decently priced. My fries were a bit overcooked. But I didn’t complain. I work in a kitchen. And I choked it up to old fryer oil. Bar area could use a bit updating. Still looks like it’s from the 50s or 60s. Owner and bartender are so nice and sweet too.

Ordered food -waited 1 hour & 15 minutes and food still wasn’t out(hamburg & fries). We left. The lemon drop drink was horrible and beer warm. Very dirty & poor service!!!!!

Tried to visit at 7:15pm on a Saturday night. Restaurant portion of establishment had all the lights on and was empty. I’m assuming the other door was for the bar area. It was locked.
