We tried TukTuk Thai Food since I love Thai food, and although there was a long wait, the food was absolutely worth it. We ordered the chicken pad thai and pineapple fried rice both were delicious. The curry puff was a standout, wow, one of the best we’ve had! The waitress was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Overall, it’s still a highly recommended place to visit when you’re in Russell.

Staying in Russell for 6 days and wanting to eat in a different restaurant each evening.
Tonight is night 3, searching the options, we love Thai food, read the reviews especially the whiny ones about the grumpy old guy and decided we had to go and meet the grumpy old guy for ourselves.
His name is Charlie, far from grumpy, quite endearing actually. Very friendly, prompt service and excellent food.
I had Panang Curry (as good as I’ve had in several countries), Danielle had a stir fry that was equally delicious.
We were surprised at low the bill was for two meals and two glasses of wine.
Great place to eat. Charlie’s a nice guy , highly recommend

If you are looking for an authentic Thai food look no further, this one is it.
There are other thai foods around the area but that is more of Indian more so than Thai, no offense to them of course but I like mine cooked the Thai way..love the service too.. no fuss..

As a Thai who cherishes authentic flavors, I can genuinely say that I’m always delighted with my experiences here. When I visit my family in this beautiful town each year, it feels like coming home. For those seeking true Thai cuisine that brings a taste of Thailand closer to them, I wholeheartedly recommend this place. It’s a treasure for anyone wanting to connect with the rich, vibrant flavors of our culture.

Another beautiful meal here yesterday, as a group of friends we have visited a few times of the years. Charlie and his lovely wife always look after us, the food is fantastic we can’t go past the curry puffs or the swimming rama. Thanks again and we hope to visit again soon.

If zero stars were an option, I’d give it without hesitation. After travelling a long way, we were excited to finally find a place to eat. Instead, we were met with extremely rude service. The staff member asked how many people we were, then immediately refused us before even hearing what we planned to order, which could have easily worked with their availability. We remained polite, but he interrupted us and continued speaking disrespectfully. With a rude look he told us, “Are you listening?” A very unpleasant experience. I would not recommend this restaurant at all.

Wanted to try this Thai restaurant but was turned away. Told off by a very rude old man that they can’t accommodate 7 paxs coz they are busy & we need to make reservation. The restaurant was not even busy and there are still a lot of empty tables. Am quite baffled why is he even in the service industry. Then came another 4 Caucasian paxs behind us and was about to turn back since they heard that we commented they can’t accommodate us coz we did not make reservation but one of the lady decided to try….and guess what,…they got a table! I guess the old man is racist & selective about their customer profile. Would advise to stay away from this place ….what a bummer to end our last night at Bays of Islands 🙁

Friendly welcoming and great service. Fast, good portion sizes, and a calm happy environment. Really nice place to eat out. Best thai green curry my partner and I have ever had! We came back the following evening we enjoyed the experience that much.

Me and my boyfriend went to go have some “Thai food” BIG MISTAKE! We then came in to the restaurant, we were greeted by a man who had a tone towards us, I did not like that at all. We then got seated at a table near the door, we were still looking at the menu when he comes over and says in a very rude tone “What do you want”, my boyfriend couldn’t quite understand what he was saying and he kept looking at the menu. The elder man then continues to say in an angry tone “what do you want?” I explained to my boyfriend that there wasn’t a certain dish on the menu and the man continues asking what we wanted when we were clearly still looking, over all I give it a 2/10 experience, I think that he should have a more polite tone towards people. And give his customers more time to look at the menu, we felt rushed and upset that we were treated like this, and the food did not taste like Thai food at all, There was so much peanut sauce and hardly any meat and it was very small my boyfriend spent around 20 dollars for basically nothing, thanks.
