Yikes! Food poisoning from their sautéed spinach salad. I came in for lunch for the first time and got bread, butter, lasagna and the spinach salad (which is served hot).

Within 4 hours my stomach was cramping. And within 6 hours I was on the toilet for every 5 minutes. And all day the next day. Had to miss work. Doctor said it was in fact food poisoning.

I called the following day to report it and was told that the manager Would call me back. (I’m trained in food handling. And it is supposed to be reported. And the contaminated food is supposed to be disposed of immediately.)

I followed up the next day since I never got a call and surprisingly was speaking directly to the owner. He told me that it couldn’t have been his food since he personally cuts the spinach. And that food poisoning takes 24 hours and that it was likely whenever I had the day prior. What he doesn’t realize is that I fast often and hadn’t had food. His meal was the only meal I had. And my doctor said that food poisoning takes 4 to 6 hours. When I clarified this with the owner, he said that’s not a “peeing contest.” And that he’s not going to argue with me about the number of hours Food poisoning takes to go through your system. I told him since he was being dismissive of my feedback, and since I am trained in food safety, I know I was supposed to immediately report it so that way they can throw away any contaminated food. He didn’t seem interested in any of this information. Mind you I started this conversation with I’m not trying to seek any compensation. I just wanna make sure you’re aware. But his pride is way bigger than actually caring about a new customer’s experience. My first order was over $100. (The Doctor visit $89.) For two people. Their loss honestly. I can tell the food is likely made with care. And the recipes are good. But if this is how they handle food poisoning complaints. That likely means he’s just as dismissive on food safety guidelines as well.

I’m shocked about the way he chose to respond today. His wait staff is exceptional. And it’s sad he is as close minded as he was on this call. I feel sorry for anyone who has feedback or comments that don’t align exactly with that he believes. Textbook pride and narcissism. He’s the type of person who was never told no. Or you’re wrong. What he doesn’t realize is contamination could have been completely out of his control. And not his fault at all. But responding this way is not how you run a business. He needs to read the book “How to win friends and influence people.”

Additional note: portions for dine in seem to be bigger than to go. I ordered 4 lasagnas to go. And it was a much smaller portion that what’s in the photo here. I was disappointed.

Good luck to this little restaurant with that type of leadership.

This was my first lunch visit to the Purple Garlic on Blanco Rd. A friend and I tried their paninis which came with a salad or fries. We both had salads. Our sandwiches were on freshly made bread with tasty fillings. We were both quite impressed with the food and excellent service. I usually go to the Purple Garlic on San Pedro for dinner which also has excellent food, service and atmosphere. Our meals today were excellent value and I highly recommend you try this restaurant or other locations.

I came here for the first time with my partner for our anniversary and it was perfect! We got the spinach artichoke dip with the croutinis as an appetizer and that was really tasty. I ordered the chicken formaggio and it was divine. Literally my new favorite pasta. Super creamy and pasta cooked to perfection. My partner got the creamy chicken pesto and it was really good too. The ambiance was lovely, with cute plants all around and warm lighting. Our server was an older man and he was very friendly and attentive, refilling our drinks before they were empty. We’d definitely come back again.

Welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. First time at purple Garlic Italian Cafe, staff took time and gave a run thru of popular foods and suggestions. The food and appetizers were tasty. Enjoyed a bottle of wine at a reasonable price without sacrificing taste.

Such a quaint little mom and pop place! The atmosphere is elegant in a simple way, and the staff is extremely courteous, attentive, and pleasant. Even the chef is known to visit the tables to make sure you are pleased. On Thursday night, they have live jazz that’s soft, and they take requests. The prices are very fair, portions are generous and delicious. Is it a Michelin Star contender? Well, no, but we can’t afford that anyway. We love going there for a quiet date night near the house and are never disappointed. Generally, no wait. I recommend the tenderloin salad and bruschetta. My husband loves any of the pasta dishes. I can’t wait to try more items. They also have a happy hour, which makes drinkies and apps even better! Go today!

Had a very nice time here! The servers were super kind, and the food was delicious with a great price! I went during happy hour within the week in which they have deals on appetizers and drinks. Karsen was kind, funny, and very attentive with great recommendations! We got the Spinach Artichoke Dip, and the toasted bread it came with was so perfectly toasted and fresh as well as the bread that came with our orders. It was toasty on the outside and fluffy as heck on the inside; I loved it! I got the Chicken Marsala, and my husband got the Alfredo Fettuccine with Chicken. Both were delectable! Thanks so much, Karsen! ❤️
