According to my mom and family, this is the best banh cuon place in San Jose. I do like their dac biet, which is their special.

I think a major highlight is that their steamed rice roll is very thin and velvety compared to other places.

Recently they got shut down by the health inspector so now is a really good time to eat there y’all. No lines and you know they’re gonna be clean as hell to keep up. We also are currently at 20% off to bring back customers.

They now leave their fish sauce on the table, thank God, so we don’t have to ask for extra

Busy for lunch even after 2pm on a Friday. We ordered 2 banh cuon beef, additional fried potatoes with shrimp a bun moc noodle soup. Food arrived quickly. The soup was new to us, gave a variety of meatballs to try, noodles really thin and the produce on the side was nice. The banh cuon was fine, I prefer a softer noodle. Service was nice and efficient.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while, but the afternoon crowds always deterred me. So, I decided to come early on a Saturday morning, and I’m glad I did! There were plenty of seats available, and the service was quick and efficient.

The menu is simple, but that’s what makes it so appealing. The banh cuon was the star of the show. The texture was perfect, and the flavor was even better than I remember from Tay Ho. The bun moc was a delightful surprise. It was simple, but the flavors were so well-balanced.

The restaurant was also very clean, with tables being cleared promptly. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their offerings!

Great tasting food and it’s affordable! Would return again. The portions are very generous! I was super stuffed. I also ordered Jasmin Tea and it reminded me of the fragrant Jasmine Tea from HeyTea.

This place is popular; you can tell it from its concise menu, which has no more than five sheets. The menu is simple, specialized, and affordable, but what’s even better is that the food is delicious. Due to the place’s popularity, I suggest going on a weekday, arriving early, or not going there too hungry.

The staff makes a great effort to serve all customers promptly and attentively, even when there is a long queue. They don’t pressure you to finish your food quickly or keep track of you with the check when they serve you your food.

The place could be improved by having more tables and space inside.

Got to visit Ong Ta Banh Cuon Bun Moc (banh cuon is freshly steamed rice rolls filled with grounded pork, onions, spices & chopped dried mushrooms) is located in the Vietnam Town Shopping Plaza.

Ordered to go #1 special Bánh Cuốn Đặc Biệt – which had delicate chew, juicy bits of pork and veggies giving a burst of flavor accompanied with fresh bean sprouts, mint, herbs and other sides, all meant to be dipped or drizzled in a prepared savory fish sauce (add on chili sauce and fried shallots for umami)

Taste: 4.8 / 5 stars
Portion size: generous – one to go portion was enough for two

Likely the best in San Jose as I’ve been living in the NorCal area for over 35 years now and hadn’t come across a banh cuon restaurant with not only generous portions but tasty combinations of various fried grounded pork patties and steamed pork patties (cha) & nem (cured pork patties) etc – four different types total plus a deep fried sweet potato shrimp cake to top it off.

Would I visit again? Absolutely

Recommend to family & friends: for sure

To go order total: under $18 USD

On a separate note, love to ski, ride & good eats? SnowPals Dot Org since ‘99

The restaurant is small and short on staff. There’s only 1 cleaning staff and he’s a middle aged uncle, so if you come in and find the table dirty or not clear of previous customer’s plates, be patient standing next to the table. The uncle will eventually come.
First time come in, we didn’t know that sitting by the table waiting for orders to be taken means dine-in, and lining up before the cashier means take-out.
I saw a long line, so I went to line up and order. We chose a table and waited for 20 minutes only to have our orders in takeout plastic bag.
The food is good though. We ordered one Special Banh Cuon and one Banh canh thit. My husband likes the Banh cuon, but the fiah sauce is too spicy to me. On the other hand, I really like Banh canh.
Will come again, and this time we will wait patiently at the table for the waiter 🙂

Food is pretty good, but nothing outstanding. We sat inside and the seats and tables weren’t very clean. The workers are very nice though. Very quick and efficient.

A friend recommended that we try this place out, and that’s what we did. We were not hungry as we just ate, but since it was close by, we had to come. It is located in the Vietnam Town Plaza among many restaurants and drink places. I knew this place was legit when I saw the jug of nuoc mam at each table. We just decided to get the #1, Banh Cuon Dat Biet, which had a little bit of everything. The rice roll here is pretty good, and you can tell it’s freshly made. It’s definitely worth a try. I only wished we were really hungry when we came.
