We started eating and THEN I remembered to capture it all (sorry it was just… mmm lol). My pineapple margarita was HUGE so do not get the large if you’re trying to just have a little sip o’ something! Ha!
The queso with the shrimp, steak, and chicken was so good I might go back for done RIGHT NOW just thinking about it! The Mexican guacamole was— mmmm— well made with all the good fixings and after adding some salt my child wouldn’t let us have anymore!
The portions were very filling! You will absolutely get what (and more than) you pay for!
Oh also, the kids menu was so cute and I truly appreciate the tiny variety for our little picky eaters out there.
All around — this Monterey’s is my new favorite place!
We’ve been regular family customers here for years and love the food, so I was excited to use them for catering my private event last Saturday. I ordered a $168 build-your-own fajita bar with three protein options (including shrimp, chicken, and steak), expecting separate containers so guests could customize their plates.
Unfortunately, everything arrived mixed together in one large silver pan: all three meats combined with the fajita onions and peppers. This made it impossible for guests to build their own fajitas as intended especially problematic for those with preferences, allergies, or who avoid certain items (like shrimp on top of chicken). The steak was also extremely tough and overcooked, to the point where most people couldn’t eat it comfortably.
As a result, many guests skipped the catering entirely, and I had to quickly order food from elsewhere to ensure everyone was fed. It felt like a significant miss for an event where presentation and customization matter. Wasted our money !
When I called to speak with the manager (I think is was Armando) about the issue, the response was dismissive, with no apology, explanation, or offer to make it right…. no refund, credit, or gesture of goodwill for a long-time repeat customer.
I don’t want to discourage anyone from dining in (the restaurant is usually great for that), but I strongly recommend double-checking catering details and setup expectations in advance. This was a letdown for what should have been a fun, brag-worthy experience.
If the restaurant improves their catering prep (e.g., keeping proteins separate) and handles concerns more empathetically Then I will go back!
