If you’re searching for a meal that truly celebrates the bounty of the sea, look no further than a perfectly crafted seafood platter. Recently, I had the pleasure of enjoying a seafood platter that surpassed all expectations and set a new standard for freshness, variety, and flavor.
The platter arrived beautifully arranged, with an enticing selection that included succulent shrimp, crispy clams, flaky fried haddock, and sweet scallops. The presentation made this dish as delightful to look at as it was to eat.
Every item on the platter radiated freshness. Notably, there was no trace of fishiness—just the clean, delicate flavors you’d expect from top-quality seafood. Each bite demonstrated that only the best ingredients had been chosen.
This seafood platter was a true celebration of the ocean’s gifts. Whether you’re a seafood aficionado or a newcomer to the genre, this platter will leave you savoring every last bite and planning your next visit. Highly recommended! From the minute we walked in the door our friendly bartender Danielle made us feel welcome and at home. We will be back!
That all being said, if you don’t mind a very casual bar atmosphere with tables covered with plastic disposable tablecloths and set with plastic-wrapped take-out flatware, and you like affordable great food (especially seafood) and don’t mind it being served in paper and foil lined red plastic baskets, and you like fantastic service, then run, don’t walk, to Captain John’s! It’s become a new favorite of my son and me. Had been wanting to try it for a long time and so on a whim on a Saturday night a little over a month ago we went after my son got out of work. Street parking only but we had no big issue finding a space. It was about 10:10pm when we arrived and I unfortunately didn’t realize the kitchen closed at 10:00, but the manager (I can’t remember her name) said she could make something fried for us. We ordered fish & chips and it did not disappoint. 2 huge pieces of fresh fish perfectly battered and cooked, generous portion of tasty french fries, and very tasty sweet cole slaw (I’m very particular about cole slaw and liked theirs). Food was delicious and well worth the money, but the manager going out of her way and serving us after the kitchen had closed was especially awesome.
A couple of weeks ago we returned, with one of my son’s friends along with us, for a birthday dinner for my son (this time within kitchen hours ). My son and I each got the Drunken Haddock (baked haddock with breadcrumb topping made with olive oil rather than butter, white wine and lemon) which was really good, he got fries and I got the rice which was a delicious, what I was told, Greek style rice cooked with a yummy spice blend, and we both had broccoli which was very tasty and cooked just right. My son’s friend had a medium rare burger which he said was very good. The same sweetheart manager served us (the restaurant side was very quiet at 8:30, almost 9:00 when we arrived but the bar side was hopping with football game watchers and regulars). I spoke with her on the sly and mentioned it was my son’s birthday so I’d like to add a slice of cake if they had it and sing Happy Birthday if at all possible. I understandably didn’t expect her to say yes but she said “I’ve got you.” Sure enough, after dinner she brought out a huge piece of delicious-looking chocolate cake with a lit candle and several people in the bar sang Happy Birthday to my son. And the nicest part is the cake slice was on the house. We stayed for a little while after we ate because they have an awesome karaoke host there on Saturday nights, really great guy.
Captain John’s will definitely now be a regular go-to for us. Apparently the place changed hands awhile back and was really popular under its original owners. Hopefully they will have continued success under the new owners. From my experience both times going there, I don’t see why they should not. I highly recommend them!
PS – Spotlessly clean ladies, something in my past experience is not typical in a bar. The state of a place’s bathroom is a good indicator of the state of the kitchen and rest of an establishment.
Fisherman platter will serve three people trust me!
