I went with the Kale and Pulled Chicken Salad, and it did not disappoint. Packed with fresh mint, herbs, and crunchy peanuts, it was flavorful, satisfying, and left me full without feeling sluggish. The spinach dip is another standout (I’ve been making a version at home for over 25 years, and theirs still wins me over every time!).
Service was exceptional—attentive and friendly without ever making us feel rushed. A spot I’ll definitely be returning to.
While the appetizers — chips, queso, and salsa — were a bit underwhelming, everything else more than made up for it. The ribs were the star of the show: incredibly tender and surprisingly packed with flavor. The Hawaiian steak was also a standout — juicy, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The baked potato was hearty and flavorful, and the creamed corn was a delicious surprise — rich, sweet, and definitely a side dish worth trying.
The french fries were crisp and satisfying, but what really elevated them was the seasoning served on the side — a flavorful blend that could honestly be used on just about anything. It’s a great add-on that enhances every bite.
All in all, Hillstone is a place I’d highly recommend and definitely plan to visit again. Excellent food, great service, and a laid-back yet refined vibe — it’s well worth your time.
I’ve also tried the Prime French Dip. It wasn’t my cup of tea. I didn’t care for the texture of the meat and I am not a fan of shoe string style fries. These fries get hard fast. I prefer a thicker cut.
Cocktails are strong and are the kind that make you want to order a second one .
The atmosphere is classy but relaxed.
Overall, I’ve enjoyed each of my visits to Hillstone and I think you will too.
The spinach artichoke dip is simply unrivaled; its creamy texture and perfect blend of flavors make it an irresistible starter every time. The salmon and toast dish is a true standout, showcasing the chef’s mastery with its impeccable seasoning and tender, flaky fish. And let’s not forget about the Hawaiian steak–a cut above the rest, it’s succulent, juicy, and bursting with flavor.
While the wait may sometimes stretch to an hour, every minute is worth it for the culinary experience that awaits. Hillstone in University Park has become more than just a restaurant–it’s a cherished tradition and a guarantee of exceptional dining.
But I’ve always had great experiences here; never had an issue or altercation with the staff or management. Everyone is very nice. Just the food doesn’t seem to have that fully delicious taste as it used to had, nor what Houston’s delivered. I came this past Wednesday night and the spinach artichoke dip – wasn’t bad – was more like simple cream of spinach and no chunks of artichoke found. And the smoked salmon was too wilted and low flavor.
But no disrespect to this restaurant, it is a nice place with nice people. It’s great to come back to every now and then. Just hope that they can amp up the flavor of their fine dishes like Houston’s did.
The service is a huge part of that experience. Hillstone’s staff operates with a smooth, almost choreographed professionalism. They never hover, yet they’re always there at exactly the right moment—refilling a glass, clearing a plate, offering a recommendation that somehow aligns perfectly with your taste. It’s hospitality that feels personal, familiar, and elevated all at once, the same type of attention you’d expect in a private club where everyone knows your preferences before you even sit down.
The menu, while not overly complicated, is built on quality. Every dish is executed with consistency and care, from their iconic spinach artichoke dip to the perfectly cooked steaks, fresh sushi, and beautifully presented salads. Hillstone doesn’t rely on gimmicks; they rely on craftsmanship. The flavors are balanced, clean, and memorable, the kind of dishes you come back for again and again because you know they will be just as good as the last time.
But beyond the food and setting, it’s the atmosphere that makes Hillstone feel so special. There’s a calm, unhurried energy in the dining room—a blend of business professionals, couples, families, and regulars who treat the place like an extension of their own living room. Conversations are relaxed, the pace is measured, and the overall vibe is elevated without ever feeling pretentious.
Hillstone isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience. It’s refined, consistent, and timeless, the kind of place that makes every visit feel like returning to an upscale country club where you’re always welcomed, always remembered, and always satisfied.
In the 30 years of living in Dallas I’ve easily been to Houstons/Hillstone 50+ times..My husband and I go for our anniversary every year, Jan. 1st…this time was not pleasant..
from the first hello, the young lady seemed dissociated and unhappy. She wasn’t MEAN but she wasn’t happy or cheerful either. I asked her to take our annual photo by the front door and she reluctantly agreed, looking disturbed/bothered. She hurried, took the photo and just walked away before we could even review/approve it..this really bothered me, but I just noted it and moved on. We sat at the bar for drinks and this was good, Jocelyn was kind and the drinks were good. We moved into the dining room for dinner, no issues. Heather, our server was very nice.
We typically share a spinach and artichoke dip but decided to be healthier and ordered a traditional salad and cheese toast to share. Salad came and by surprise, it was 50% smaller than last year but it cost more..ok!
We ordered our dinner and it arrived on time, everything was fine except my Hawaiian Ribeye med well, which one of us order every year – it was completely rare; Heather took it back and returned it still more rare than medium..She offered to get me something else but I declined due to already eating my entire baked potatoe. My husband ate my steak.
Moving to desserts, they offer 4 options these days which none appealed to us, but the weird thing was they never offered us a free dessert for our anniversary..this really hurt!!
I think it bothered me bc if we went to del friscos (our other fave), they would have been very acknowledging and celebrative of our anniversary and patronage…
There are sooo many fine restaurants in Dallas and I think we’ll be moving our special moments to those unfortunately.
