We were grateful they were open close to midnight and the hostess was sweet and seated us in the back side room. No one brought us menus and I grabbed some off another table. When the waitress came I said “Buenas noches, que tipos de pizza tiene que son vegetariana?” And she picked up the menu and said with a ton of atttiude “No puedes leer la carta?” To which I said “Si puedo pero no hay información de que tipos de rebanadas tiene ahora.” She rolled her eyes and sighed, walked away and came back to tell me which they had. I was shocked she would answer so rudely but we thought maybe it’s Halloween and she dealt with a lot of drunks and tried to show grace.
When we asked for the bill she took her sweet time flirting with the table of men next to us and when it finally arrived, she was trying to charge us for mineral water. I pointed out the error and she pointed out a tiny penafiel bottle I had just bought at El Signo and pulled out of my bag. I was so put off by her audacity. I told her I didn’t buy that there (which as my waitress she would have remembered bringing and also Pachamama doesn’t sell tiny bottles of penafiel) to which she said “No puedes tomar cosas de afuera así necesitas pagar” to which I stood my ground and told her that no one had said we couldn’t drink our own water, that there was no way I would pay for a water I didn’t buy there and how ridiculous that was she was even trying to say that and still she pushed saying she can’t take it off the bill because whatever the camera sees they have to charge for (the camera couldn’t even see our table and if it could the camera would see my pulling the bottle out of my purse). She was so rude and tried to be so manipulative, we left without tipping. As an ex waitress / bartender who’s worked many crazy halloweens we were going to tip extra but not with that kind of service. Management, please talk to your employees because this is not any kind of way to be treating customers.
We had pizza. Very bready. Potato wedges were great, but quite expensive.
Service was good though. And atmosphere too.
The restaurant is cosy and has a wonderful atmosphere, tables are available on the street too. Every table was evidently comfortable and chatting.
Food was delicious and plentiful, served fast but still cooked fresh. We were served a plate of salsas to dip bread into while we waited for the food, including some excellent chimmichuri which we proceeded to put on everything with gusto.
We ordered veggie calzone, full of mixed veg and cheese that was very reminiscent of an empanada; some creamy and comforting spinach ravioli; and a side of ‘spiced french fries’, which were actually more like wedges. All of it was outstanding. For s homesick Brit craving fried potato but wanting to avoid chains, these were a welcome find!
We paid 345 pesos for all that and two soft drinks and frankly over-ate, however special deals of a meal with a drink are also available for 100 pesos and less.
