Mr Bluebird Egg sandwich might be one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve had. My son had the pancakes which were also very good as I snuck some bites of those too. Service was great, although the floor was a little dirty with food and some debris. Also quite a few flies, but it is a diner with doors constantly open. Enough to mention but not enough to take away a full star.
We sat inside, but there are some outdoor tables as well. On weekends it can be busy if you don’t get there early enough…if you are a late breakfast person, be prepared to wait 30 minutes up to an hour if it is a busy weekend in Iowa City.

The food is amazing! The corn beef hash is homemade, well seasoned and tender. The French toast is so good… and there are several different topping options. The biscuits and gravy was recommended and did not disappoint. Staff was friendly, kind and knowledgeable. Definitely will return.

We were just driving through town and decided to stop in—and we’re so glad we did! This has become one of our favorite spots for breakfast and lunch whenever we’re passing through.
The service was quick and friendly, and we were happy to get a seat right away. My husband had an omelette and I had the mushroom sandwich—both were absolutely delicious! Everything was fresh, flavorful, and made with care.
It’s one of those places you just look forward to coming back to. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

Always a morning favorite! Usually always order an omelet and the Prairie Breeze cheese is a personal favorite! Love locally sourced products. Today I tried the Breggfast Sammy. So good and would get again. I also chose the rustic hash and so glad I did. My daughter got the classic chocolate chip pancakes! We enjoyed the beautiful Iowa morning and sat outside. Thank you Bluebird for always providing delicious food and great friendly service.

This was my 1st trip to Bluebird, and though the food was tasty, it was served warm to slightly cold, affecting enjoyment and texture of the food. They were busy, which appears to be normal for them, especially on a game day. The staff were friendly and helpful. I didn’t complain about the food, as we were heading to the game afterwards so we didn’t have time to wait for fresher food. Will most likely try it again sometime.

Saw all the great reviews and I see why now. We went at an odd time and our food was done so fast! The gravy on the biscuits and gravy and chicken fried steak were delicious. Good portion sizes and the dessert looked too good to pass up. Waitress was nice, and the environment was family friendly during the day. I can imagine it gets packed at night and before game day!

Such a cozy, warm place! Immediately felt very welcome. Every member of staff I interacted with made me feel like family. And in over 600 diners across the board on my travels, this is the only place that has ever gotten my hashbrowns right. Sounds trivial, absolutely isn’t. Perfectly executed everything. 12/10, go see them. They are the breakfast and coffee truth, all wrapped up in a super wholesome, all-inclusive glittery bow (but they won’t put glitter in your food unless you ask real nice).
