InterStellar BBQ – Austin – a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

The mark of a good place is when a line starts forming before they’ve even opened, and at InterStellar BBQ, it’s long before they’ve swung open the door.

This BBQ is definitely OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Definitely recommend arriving right at the opening hour or shortly after, due to the popularity and the quickly forming line of customers. The average wait time was approximately 1.5 hours to arrive at the counter, order, and be seated quickly.

The staff is all very kind and the seating and environment inside is spacious and clean. Highly recommend the peach-glazed pork belly bites seen in the picture as these are by far the best I’ve ever had yet.

Overall, this restaurant is a must-stop site we searched ahead of time before arriving in Austin. I recommend making some time to stop by and check it out, you won’t regret it! And make sure not to eat before so you arrive with ample appetite, trust me, you will have leftovers!

Interstellar BBQ in Austin is seriously amazing and it’s even Michelin recognized. The brisket and prime ribs are solid, and the sausage is really good too. The service is super friendly and welcoming, and the vibe in the place is just great, fun and relaxed. They’ve got a cool little souvenir section as well. No joke, if you’re anywhere near Austin, stop whatever you’re doing and go try this place. This isn’t just good, it’s epic. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and done right. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in town.

Come hungry, stay happy. Worth every minute.

This was my second visit to Interstellar BBQ. The first time, I waited over an hour in line only to find most items sold out. The pork ribs were just okay, and the sausage wasn’t anything special, though the mac & cheese was excellent.

Yesterday I got lucky: almost no line! I waited 30–40 minutes, and this time I finally got to try the full menu and wow, totally different experience.

The turkey sandwich surprised me in the best way. I’m not usually a turkey fan, but it was juicy, flavorful, and a great choice if you’re skipping red meat.

The short ribs with chimichurri were a highlight: tender, rich, and packed with flavor. Highly recommended.

The special of the day, a lamb leg barbacoa, was absolutely delicious melt-in-your-mouth perfection. And yes, the mac & cheese remains a must-order.

Another huge plus: the staff is incredible. Friendly, smiling, and so welcoming from the pit masters to the sides team, cashier, and even the crew outside clearing tables.

If you’re in Austin and love BBQ, Interstellar is a must-try. Just arrive early… the good stuff goes fast.

Got really excited to finally try but overall wasn’t as impressive as it’s made to sound.
Drove 1.5hrs , waited 2 hrs in line, spent $125 … it’s one and done for me.
It’s great if you live in the area.
No plate options so expect to dish out $$$if you want to try everything.
– brisket had good flavor but not as juicy/tender as everyone makes it
– pork belly were tender (not juicy) and good flavor (my fave of the three)
– beef short ribs were dry and decent flavor.
– mac and cheese were really good
– cream corn is nothing to brag about

Recommend ordering sandwiches they offer instead if you won’t want to spend that much.
Decent indoor seating and more benches outdoor.

Some of the most creative bbq I’ve ever had. Everything was amazing. I only wish I brought people with me so i could try more of the menu. You can’t go wrong with anything they have here. Definitely suggest bringing 3-4 people here so everyone can try different items on the menu. The peach tea glazed pork belly is a must. Chimmichurri makes everything better and helps cut through the fatty meats. All the sides are amazing too

Ok let me first preface this review that this comes from a vegetarian! Yes yes I know, why would a vegetarian come to a barbecue restaurant? Well sometimes you have friends/family that are craving barbecue and meat and you don’t want to be left out as you still want to be social and don’t miss out on hanging out with them. However, I am always very appreciative when barbecue place does accommodate vegetarians even if it isn’t their specialty. I super super appreciate that their sides are not only delicious, but a step above just the classic sides.

We arrived on Sunday at 12:40 PM and waited close to an hour and a half before getting to the front to order. I will say on weekends even though they are open until 3/4 PM, they us usually sell out by 2-2:30 PM easily. For the sides, I got the smoked Gouda Mac and cheese, zucchini and tomato salad, mushroom frito pie and scalloped potatoes. I was unable to unfortunately enjoy the complimentary beans as those were swimming in meat fat, so just a heads up for those who wants the beans thinking it’s vegetarian.

The mushroom frito pie was nice and smoky with the crumbled mushroom on top and I really appreciated the fresh elements of tomato and almost like a nice green goddess dressing on top to cut through the savoriness of the mushrooms. The smoked Gouda mac and cheese were delicious as it uses large shell pasta. The scalloped potatoes were also very good – smoky and surprisingly not too heavy considering scallop potatoes can often be swimming in butter. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the tomato zucchini salad with purple onions – the dressing on it was just light enough to help balance out all the heavier sides and actually honestly my favorite side because it was refreshing and had good flavor and texture. Unfortunately they were sold out of the banana pie by the time we got there so that’s what I would like to try dessert time next time.

Parking is easy with free lot in front shared with strip mall.

This was just unbelievable. We had five guys take this restaurant on. We showed up at 10:00 as we wanted to make sure we were first in line. The staff, when they opened, helped walk us through how much we should get for the five of us. They also recommended we do half sweet tea and half unsweetened peach tea, which was amazing. We finished the whole tray, and I’d love to describe what we ate, but that’s impossible. It was truly the best food I’ve ever had. The best part is the owner came up and talked to us. They were so nice and down-to-earth. Michelin star worthy, truly.

Best BBQ I’ve had in my life – everything was to perfection.

This is worth coming to and waiting an hour in line. Get here around 10:15.

The sides are absolutely incredible – the Mac and cheese and coleslaw especially, but the scalloped potatoes too.

We loved the duck, the pork belly, and pulled lamb.

Absolutely phenomenal food! Hands down best sausage of my life (and the entire group shared the sentiment)! They had great traditional sides. The Mac and Cheese is a must order. We went on a Sunday and they had tomahawk Ribeye steaks as one of the specials. It was cooked extremely well and had a nice smoky flavor. The brisket and lamb were also high quality. Arrived about an hour and half before opening. We were the 3rd group in line. The line can take some time, so I do recommend arriving early with your group and just include hanging out as part of the experience!

Such a great spot. Went on a random Wednesday I had free around lunchtime. They open at 11, I arrived at 11:45 – already a big wait, which is well deserved. We waited around 45 minutes before getting to the ordering counter. Was able to get brisket, the peach tea pork belly, and sausage (brisket sold out maybe around 1 pm). Highly recommend that pork belly and brisket. They were unbelievable. The Mac and cheese was amazing and we also got some pinto beans which were not on the menu but they had!
