Really not a good value for your money. If you are charging nearly $7 across the board for single pastries, they should taste good. I’d say so much as it better taste fantastic. Instead, the baked options here are quite disappointing, and not something that we finished.

This place is really awesome, I tried blechkuchen for the very first time (do not use autocorrect for this word, Lol!) and I was sold. Not too sweet, yummy fresh fruit, cake like crumble on top of a lightly sweet cake.
I could eat this all day. The myriad of flavors that can go on this is bar is endless.

The latte was perfect, 12/10 would visit again.

I am German and come since 2011. I get more and more disappointed.
Just coming back from Germany and buying bread and some extra treats. The price is mostly 3 times more than in Germany, like the Käselaugenstange. And the Blechkuchen get smaller and try. I don’t get it. It’s hard to go in and stick only with buying bread. But makes me sad.

This was the second time I went with my mom. Their pretzels are delicious. The cardamom coffee cake they have on weekends is delicious and surprisingly filling. The staff were very nice, and helpful. The building itself has a very cozy vibe to it, it’s quiet and peaceful and still has adequate space so you don’t feel squished. Can’t wait to come back!

Took a chance as my usual place is remodeling and I’m glad I did.
The pastries and cakes were well made and fresh. The pretzels received the approval of a German citizen.
The servers were friendly and engaged in light banter. The place could use a little sprucing up.

German bakery and café in Lake City that’s been in business since 2011. They are best known for their pretzels, made using a traditional recipe that includes boiling the dough in lye water to get the chewy texture vital in pretzels. They also offer a wide range of breads and pastries for sale, plus breakfast sandwiches and coffees. The interior space is spacious with a high ceiling. Other touches that reinforce the ethnic atmosphere are the German flag outside the entrance, the German word of the day sign on the front counter, and the German radio station playing in the background. They are also very involved in the Lake City community, working with the local community council and food bank. This is a great place if you are at all interested in German baking.

Wide selection of German pastries and ok tea selection. Nothing blew me away though. My friend and I ordered a selection of items and while they were intriguing, they ended up not being very exciting or something we would get again. The cookie was a little dry and hard. The apple cake needed more apple. The berry rhubarb square was very dense and hard to finish. I am not expecting a reinvention of the wheel. However, I felt that I could make comparable items at home. I like to buy pastries in bakeries that I could not replicate in my own kitchen, or that have something about them which makes them unique. Especially with how expensive prices are getting these days to eat out. This eatablishment strikes me as a reliable, everyday place to go, rather than a special one.

Music was too loud. But was glad to see all the birth control resources in the bathroom.

I don’t often give out 1 star reviews, this time it’s justified lol. I ordered a cappuccino, latte, and chocolate croissant. The coffee was truly just not good. For a coffee shop that’s like the lowest bar. I normally order a sandwich, but the “sandwich” was a biscuit cut in half with some toppings. I do not fault them at all for not having an item I normally ordered, so I pivoted and ordered the croissant. It was very much not fresh, taste was mediocre, and the knife provided was not sufficient to actually cut it (to share with my partner). Very disappointed at ~$7 per coffee and for the croissant.

The nitro cold brew was acrid… not creamy or smooth despite all the foaminess at the top. It was super acidic and didn’t taste right. That plus two biscottis was like $16! Super overpriced especially for the quality. The white biscotti had a weird after taste, kind of like of chicken bouillon. Chocolate biscotti was better. The cafe itself has a grunge granola feel that I’m not personally into. It smells like B.O. not fresh pastries or coffee. I’m leaving this review because I live in the neighborhood and I’m disappointed that this is one of the only coffee shops here. It has 4.5 stars currently, but it doesn’t live up to many other cafes in Seattle at that rating and are way better. I’ve been very disappointed from the multiple times I’ve given this place a chance. Lake city deserved better! Disclaimer I did finish the cold brew because cause I was thirsty and needed caffeine lol.
