I visited today for my birthday, and honestly, it turned out to be such a warm and memorable experience. From the moment I walked in, I noticed how cozy and spotless the place was. It has that classic breakfast-house charm comfortable, welcoming, and full of character. You can really feel the history behind it, like it’s one of those spots that’s been making mornings better for people for generations.
The service truly stood out. My server was incredibly kind and attentive. When she found out it was my birthday, she insisted on bringing me strawberries with cream on the house. I kept saying she didn’t have to, but she smiled and said, “Nope, you have to take them with you.” That little gesture honestly made my day, it felt genuine, not forced, and it’s rare to see that level of care.
Food-wise, I tried their famous Dutch Baby pancake, and it was absolutely delicious, perfectly baked, fluffy yet slightly crisp on the edges, and just the right balance of sweetness. You can tell it’s made fresh from scratch. I’ve tried a lot of pancake places before, but this one really lives up to its name. I also ordered hash browns. They were tasty and crispy, though just a little more oily than I personally prefer. Still, the flavor was great and clearly homemade.
Another thing worth mentioning is the pricing, very reasonable for the quality, portion size, and service you get. It didn’t feel overpriced like many breakfast spots do nowadays.
Overall, it was a wonderful birthday breakfast with great food, kind staff, and a clean, inviting atmosphere. The slight oiliness of the hash browns is the only reason I’m not giving a full 5 stars otherwise, it would be perfect. I’d absolutely come back again and recommend it to anyone looking for a comforting, classic breakfast experience.

Nothing better in the world than this place and I have been to 76 countries. Great food and ingredients come with great service. Been going to OPH for 30 years and counting. My favourite breakfast place and restaurant among all. Pictures speak better than a million words!!

This place is breakfast done right. The portions are comically large, with side orders often taking up an entire dinner plate. They offer all the standard breakfast options, and a few you will rarely see. You need to come hungry and early as there can be a healthy wait, but there is a nice are built out just for this reason. If you’re not picky, then there is a large communal table that is a fun experience in it’s self. A great form of entertainment while waiting for your order is looking around at the exaggerated portions of everyone else’s meals, the reactions of the dinners is priceless.

Stopped by for breakfast and waited quite a long time. Place was really busy. Not a comfortable place to sit and eat place is very small. Was excited to eat but food was ordinary. I had the peppers and cheese omelette and it was Big but bland in taste, green peppers overwhelmed the dish I ate half. Pancakes were pretty good. Coffee was old and warm. They don’t serve sodas there which was odd.
About $19 dollars a plate.
Price and taste is a thumbs down for me, better places to eat in my opinion.

Food was great, omelettes are awesome and people is very friendly. The waiting time was way too long (while already sitting at the table, leave aside the line to get a seat). Overall the experience was very nice and I’ll be back for sure.

Wow! This was an incredible surprise. The waiting was worth every minute because the food is amazing. This was my first time, and I tried the “eggs Michael,” and the flavors and portions were excellent. The staff is very friendly. I really enjoyed the entire place.

This is the original location of The Original Pancake House, where it all started. I’ve been to other locations in different states, but this was my first time here. The food was amazing, the pancakes were the best, and the corned beef hash was great. Nothing beats the original when it comes to pancakes !!!

Hard to believe I have lived in Portland for 20 years and have never been to the Original Pancake House. Finally did one morning and was really impressed. So many choices it was hard to decide but of course we had to get one dutch baby to try. Everything was so good and the service was stellar. It’s a busy place so expect a wait and it can get quite loud inside with all the people. Those things aside, I can’t wait to go back again and try more of the menu!

The dinning is crowded not able to walk around tables easily when others are seated eating. I had the Irish omelette which was different, surprisingly good but not for the price. Not sure if it’s just this location but seems prices are way over the top. I was disappointed to say the least. My daughter ordered the junior plate $14 and had we ordered the small cup of strawberries add another $8 on top of that just totally ridiculous. The server was nice enough, not very attentive though to busy chatting with a regular I guess. Yeah won’t be going back.
