Social Profile:

Initially started in the small pueblo of San Jose Jalisco, Mexico, our father Jose taught us how to communicate and serve others. He had a convenience store and on weekends sold carnita tacos, tostadas, pozole, menudo, as well as other traditional Mexican dishes. The restaurant was a way to commemorate our father and all that he taught us which is why we all decided to name our greatest success after him, Don Jose. We opened our first restaurant here in the United States in East Hanover, New Jersey in 1998. Two years later we opened our second location in Sebring, Florida. Our third location opened in 2011 in Netcong, New Jersey. Ever since we arrived in the early 1980’s, we have been working hard to prepare and serve quality Mexican food.

The moment you walk in, the décor is bright, colorful, and cheerful—it gives off great vibes for a relaxed dinner out.

Chips & salsa are a strong start. The chips are warm and crisp, and the salsa has just enough kick to awaken the appetite.

Fajitas and “ultimate nachos” are crowd-pleasers. Big, flavorful portions with a solid mix of textures from meats, peppers, onions, cheese—everything melds well.

The seafood options stood out: fish tacos and red snapper are good calls if you want something lighter but still full of flavor.

BYOB is a big plus. Gives flexibility to bring your preferred drink rather than paying high markup. Don Jose delivers authentic Mexican taste with generous portions at reasonable prices.

The atmosphere is festive and welcoming, especially when it’s busy with groups or families. For anyone craving hearty Mexican food, it’s a great go-to spot. I’d definitely return—and would recommend trying the nachos, fajitas, and their seafood selections first.

Look, firstly- my family has been coming here for 3 years and very consistently. I have never once seen this place empty or even close to empty no matter what time or day we go. There are several restaurants here and no matter how hard we try to venture and try a different cuisine nearby, we just cant bring ourselves to be that close to Don Jose and not eat there.

Second-why has this review taken 3 years to write? Well I didn’t want to jinx a great thing. You know, write a raving review then all of a sudden the quality and service go down. Well lucky for anyone reading this, my wife convinced me to just do this.

As a vegetarian family, we can’t speak to any dishes outside of veggie dishes but I would imagine it all is great. My wife consistently gets the veggie enchiladas. I have had their veggie fajitas and it should be known they season their veggies with more than the typical salt and pepper as we find at other spots in the past.

Our son loves the cheese enchiladas and I benefit from the rice he gets on the side while he devours the refried beans. My go-to is the bean and cheese burritos covered in red sauce. Yes beans come on the side too but l love em!

Visit this place once or twice a year, never fails to disappoint. Servers show great attitude and the food is amazing. also props to the guy who plays the guitar, he’s great. shrimp enchiladas are great. The only bad thing about this place is how hidden it is, tucked into the corner of a strip mall. More people should know about this place.

First impression with the chips and salsa was a disaster. The chips have some burnt flavor and salsa doesn’t taste good.

I asked for spicy salsa and they put jalapenos in the normal salsa.

They don’t serve enchiladas with sour cream and lettuce.
The beans are not good. The rice is avg

Totally the place is not worth it.

For any small change they charge.

Had to place a rather large order for my team very last minute. The gentleman on the phone who took the order was extremely patient and kind. Food was ready quickly and pick-up experience was a breeze.

The food was amazing. Everyone enjoyed their order. Also, the order was packed very efficiently and they provided plenty of cutlery and condiments. We very much appreciated that everything was labeled. Every order was completely correct, which doesn’t always happen when ordering for a big group.

Overall great takeout experience and will definitely be ordering again.

I’ve been here countless times and have never been disappointed by the food or the service. They have both an ample menu and ample seating so they can accommodate large parties. They also have live music from time to time which adds to the already vibrant and festive atmosphere.

Went here for dinner last night,it’s a bring your own and were very pleased. There was a long wait to be seated but it was well worth it. I had the special, a birria quesadilla. It was great but the menu said cheese and it had no cheese on it. Also said it came with a bowl of consume, and I didn’t get the consume. No big deal was still excellent. Service was great even with the place packed wall to wall. My constituents had a chimichanga meal and chicken enchilada meal, both very good. The queso fundido was excellent with big chunks of chorizo. Tres Leche and churros for desert were excellent! We will be back here again.
