Review: An Unforgettable Evening at San Giuliano, Malta

We had a truly fantastic time at San Giuliano in December 30 2024. It is arguably the best restaurant in the entire area. Even a year later, we still think back fondly on our visit.
Atmosphere & Service
We were seated at a table upstairs, which offered a breathtaking view over the beautiful bay. The staff were exceptionally attentive and professional. They provided excellent wine recommendations that perfectly complemented our meal and ensured our glasses were never empty.
Culinary Highlights
The food was exquisite, prepared with great care and high-quality ingredients:
Starter: The Carpaccio di Polpo (tender octopus marinated in extra virgin olive oil, lemon, fennel, and rocket salad) was sliced incredibly thin and was a true delight for the palate.
Main Course: We chose the Misto di Pesce alla Griglia. This mixed grill of fresh fish included a massive, perfectly marinated scampi alongside various delicious local fish varieties.
Dessert: To finish, we had the Sorbet di Limone. It was remarkably fluffy and refreshing.
Verdict
Our visit on December 30th was a highlight of our trip. The combination of the stunning ambiance, top-tier service, and exceptional Mediterranean cuisine makes this a must-visit. Whenever we return to Malta, San Giuliano will be our first stop.

I don’t understand why this restaurant is having a 3.6 review when it’s one of the best restaurants I go to for the past 7 years. Always consistent in the service and the food they provide, it’s all very good quality. Keep it up guys ! ❤️

A slightly more upscale restaurant. Although you can sit also downstairs, I personally recommend taking the elevator to the restaurant upstairs. It’s glass-enclosed and offers a nice view of the bay. I had fresh grilled fish with a vegetable side. They also served crispy bread with it. The fish was really good, and the price was also reasonable considering the quality and location of the restaurant. It just surprised me a bit, that there was a lady with a dog at the next table. I don’t have any issue with dogs, but I simply didn’t expect it in such a restaurant.

All the dishes were tasty and the quality/price is excellent. We enjoyed a lot the menu, all plates were perfect, especially dessert was our favorite, as well the ravioli! Top! We really appreciate the well-organized NYE dinner in your restaurant!

Unfortunately, my recent visit did not live up to the expectations of a fine dining experience. The food was mediocre and overpriced for the quality. I ordered the sirloin steak, which was overly fatty, and sadly, I experienced food poisoning shortly after the meal.
The ambiance was far from refined – the interior felt neglected, the windows were dirty, and the overall atmosphere lacked the elegance typically associated with fine dining. Even the plating was uninspired and did not reflect the level of presentation one would expect.
Service was also disappointing. While the staff appeared friendly on the surface, the attitude felt forced and disingenuous, which added to the uncomfortable experience.
Overall, I left very disappointed. This restaurant did not deliver in terms of food quality, atmosphere, or authentic service. I would not recommend it.

The food was decent quality, but overall lacked taste. We had the tuna and the ribeye, and neither impressed.
The tiramisu was adequate, but did not quite make it either.
For the price we expected more.

We came here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and really enjoyed our time. It was very sunny and warm day, perfect for sitting outside, which the restaurant has seating for. The food was very nice.
The location is also brilliant, right by the bay, easy to get to and right next to water. Beautiful location. The staff provided a good service and were nice and polite.

Love the pizza so much we have been there 2 nights in a row. Both time I had the Quattro fromagi. My dining parter had something else the first time but went with the 4 cheese the second time.
I was told Malta had good pizza and this place does not disappoint. The views from the patio are beautiful.

Lovely place situated inside the bay along the water.
Came here as a group of 9 without reservations and were able to find a sit right away.
The menu had alot of difficult options and the food did come out at reasonable time for a large group.
I really enjoyed my meal and so did everyone else.
Great tasting food and reasonably priced dishes. Would recommend.

I ordered a mixed seafood dish and it was okay, it needed more sauce as the Spaghetti felt really plain.
I also tasted my partner’s dish and it felt really dry.
We were also disappointed with the service, as when the waiter took our orders he didn’t write anything and forgot a lot of things. We had to go downstairs to look for another waiter and order the rest of our food.
I personally wouldn’t return here.
