BBQ he said…we’re venturing into Venice. It takes a lot to be me to leave Siesta Key, but this was worth it! We sampled beer before we ordered. Jolene gave us a rib to try to make sure we liked them. Who in the restaurant industry lets you try a “main” before you buy. I mean seriously…she exceeded our expectations on service for any restaurant ever!
We got boneless chicken wings and fried green tomatoes for an app. Both great. Brisket, pulled pork, ribs, Mac & cheese, cucumber salad, baked beans and mashed potatoes were the bomb. The salad and crab cake pics were our neighbors sitting next to us. Oh and Jolene hooked us up with banana pudding to take home regardless to the fact we have two days of leftovers remaining as the portions were very large. Thank you Darrell’s and we will be back!

5 stars no notes! Came for lunch and had Gina as our server. She was the sweetest! Food was above average. HUGE portions and from scratch FOOD. We had the chicken wings, fried pickles, fried chicken, and Mac and cheese. Making this part of our regular rotation! They have a family room for parties over 8!

Great food and service. The pulled pork was tender and juicy, so flavorful! Cornbread was moist and delicious. The coleslaw and potato salad were awesome, just like mom used to make and the baked beans were smoky and full of flavor. Staff was also very polite and courteous. Can’t say enough good things about Darrell’s. We will definitely be back!!

Ordered the Hungry Heifer to try a variety of different meats. Everything was pretty good overall. Has a very traditional BBQ style so not smoky like I personally prefer but by no means does that make it bad. The Cucumber Salad is a great side option that I rarely see in other places and the Baked Beans were uniquely good as well since they too weren’t like everywhere else.

Not only do we enjoy going to Darrells, but having them cater our parties is REALLY the BEST!!!
From delivering hot yummy food, to setting up the warming trays and making sure there is ample food, the experience is a delight!!!

Aside from Gold Rush, this place is our top choice for BBQ here in Venice. Can definitely tell they are a family there and welcome you in with open arms so it’s got a great family atmosphere there and incredible food! Its busy so sometimes there us a little wait but it’s worth it. Great comfort food

When the atmosphere is the best one can say about a restaurant it generally means it is a one and done. Unfortunately, for Darrell’s that is how my wife and I felt after visiting a few weeks ago.
The inside has a nice rustic decor that is very pleasing. The service, however, was not very attentive. I ordered soda and after finishing a glass was never offered a refill, despite the server walking by several times over the course of our dinner. My wife ordered chicken with a baked potato while I ordered the brisket and fries, along with some green beans.
Both of our meals were okay, but nothing really about them made them stand out versus other BBQ places in the area, such as Gold Rush, and even Stottlemyers in Sarasota. The brisket was very thin, with more fat than I would have liked. As for the baked potato my wife said it tasted like it had been sitting around for a while prior to be served. Almost as if it had been cooked and then been kept warm in a tray for however long.
It is a shame because we really wanted to like Darrell’s. We may give them another chance down the line in hopes this first visit is the outlier considering the good reviews they have from others.

This was our 1st time at Darrells & we were very pleased !
The ribs & shrimp were incredible & the portions were amazing.
Our server was Madison & she made the experience wonderful.
She was very attentive & made us feel so at home with her delightful personality & willingness to have a nice conversation , all while she was busy with the full house of customers !

First time here dined in. Got the brisket which was a little dry without adding sauce. Tea was good, nice atmosphere, really exceptional service. Corn bread and beans were delicious. I might try the fattier version of brisket next time since what I got this time seemed dry. Will return, was referred here by a friend.
