Best Indian restaurant in Norwich. Always a pleasure to dine here, the food is great and the wait staff are very talkative and friendly.
Food is also very reasonably priced, starter, curry, bread and a side for £25pp (estimate).

4 of us had dinner early on a Saturday night. The decor and chairs are nice and the lighting was good. Our table staff were functional but not warm or personable which was surprising. Maybe this was just being discreet?
The food was fair. Not the best, but perfectly fine. The spice levels could be upped we all felt. Pricing was very reasonable.
Overall a good spot, central to the city and a decent enough meal in a smart popular venue.

Dining Experience Review

A friend and I decided to visit this eatery for a light evening meal after receiving positive feedback from another friend who had recently enjoyed their meal there.

As we entered, we were greeted by a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were attentive without being overbearing, which contributed to a pleasant dining experience. Since my friend is a vegetarian, I opted for a vegetarian meal as well. While she wasn’t particularly impressed with one of her side dishes, I was very satisfied with my choice and thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

The total for our dining experience, including a takeaway curry for a friend who couldn’t join us, was a reasonable £37. Additionally, the gentlemen’s toilets were well-maintained and presentable.

One thing to note is that finding a free parking spot can be quite challenging due to the location’s proximity to the city center; however, there is a multi-story car park less than five minutes away.

Very authentic and delicious Indian food
Butter chicken is rather sweet and the chicken cubes were quite big, so it would be better and more flavourful and tender if they are cut into smaller pieces
Starters were surprisingly good
Highly recommend the paneer and dhal puri garlic naan were yummy and warm
Service was lovely too

Recommend by a coworker for being authentic, and it did not disappoint. The Bengali fish curry was especially good.
Also great service and atmosphere, lovely dining experience overall! Would definitely return.

The best #vegetarian #curry value deal for £6: 4 Brussel spouts, 2 pieces of cauliflower and 1 half mini potato + curry seasoning + water. £7 delivery + service fees. Deliveries not marked on packet with food – super cool when you have vegan, kosher and vege people eating.

Food arrives cold (15 minute drive).

This is super average. Sure Norwich breaks no barriers with (any) cuisine.

This is a super mild curry for an elder family member (balanced), if that’s your thing. Best bit. It isn’t over ghee’d.

This isn’t Indian, it’s super Pakistani, or northern India (Islamic) influenced (under seasoned) food. Easy tell. Why no pork? Any dosa? Any dried fruit? Coconut? Ah…. :/

Where to start which The Merchants of Spice, simply couldn’t have been more happy with every aspect of our visit.

We went for our friend’s birthday dinner, a very important occasion I can assure you. As soon as we entered we were greeted by both the incredibly friendly, professional staff and the cool, cosy and elegant vibe of the restaurant. There was an incredible selection of food and drinks to choose from, and not a single one of the disappointed when they arrived. Fantastic tastes. Also was very impressed by the price.

Couldn’t recommend this place more!

Brilliant from start to finish, kindly accommodated me without a booking. Poppadom w/pickle was an excellent serving size/selection. Butter Chicken was one of the best I’ve had in the UK, chicken melted under a knife which made eating the surprisingly large pieces of chicken an easy task. Even the Naan was perfectly cooked and not all greasy. First true 5 star review I can give unshaken.

Disappointing. Mediocre at best. Booked a table for 8-30, left waiting in the doorway for 30 minutes with no offer of drinks. Service was not great. Food was served in white bowls and was luke warm. Looked like commercial sauces had beeb used for some dishes so not authentic .Naan breads undercooked and greasy. Star of the show was the mushroom rice which was good ! Shame as this place used to be top of the tree -Will not be returning any time soon ..
