Social Profile:

When Jilly’s first opened to the public in 1986, our founder envisioned a place where authentic French culture and ambiance would come together with a commitment to freshness and quality; something he could be proud to name after his dear wife, Jilly. Since that day, Jilly’s has not only realized its vision, but it has become an area staple of French country fare with an American twist for daily lunch and dinner.

Intimate & popular establishment featuring French bistro fare with an American twist plus brunch.

Worst meal I’ve had in a long time. Sea bass special: sea bass was bland and flavorless, and the accompaniments of the dish were not cohesive. The broccoli was so overcooked it was mush. The waiter saw I didn’t eat the fish and asked me if I didn’t like it- I told him no. He responded with, “really, it’s one of my favorites”, and proceeded to charge me for a 1/3 eaten piece of fish regardless of the feedback he asked for. Key lime pie was garbage- not fresh, and lime flavor did not come through. It was doused in this raspberry sauce that was not good. Bathroom didn’t have paper towels. Would never return. Go elsewhere.

This is an interesting place. When I went on Dec 17, the entire entryway smelled very poorly. I will not describe the smell, but I would not visit this restaurant again if I knew they didn’t bleach or disinfect down the entire area that smells at the entrance. Something needs to be done. It would be disrespectful to customers for the owners not to care for this matter.
That said, the menu is neat and our server was lovely. My mission was to try the baked Alaska and he made it for us. It was certainly an artful and interesting dessert. It has pleasant components. If you like the taste of alcohol you may love this dessert, it is worth a shot. Baked Alaska is not that commonly found so I’m very glad they decided to put out a version of it. I appreciate the thought that went into making the dessert even if I don’t love all the components put together. Maybe it should be baked instead of flambé? Certainly not a tricolor ice cream next time I hope. The effort was good. Something different! Beautiful restaurant and atmosphere.

Jilly’s Café is truly a hidden gem for fine dining French cuisine. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels intimate, elegant, and thoughtfully curated. The attention to detail — from the presentation of each dish to the impeccable service — makes the entire experience unforgettable.

The food is beautifully crafted, rich in flavor, and perfectly balanced. Each plate feels like a work of art, showcasing classic French techniques with refined execution. The ingredients taste fresh and high quality, and every course feels intentional and elevated.

If you’re looking for a romantic dinner spot or a place to celebrate something special, Jilly’s Café delivers a sophisticated and memorable dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates true fine dining.

This is a step or two above an ordinary bistro. The standard bistro menu items are on point but come for the specials, like venison or sea bass. They take a modern approach with layered flavors. Sublime. The wine list features excellent, fairly priced wines. They don’t hurry you through the meal to turn a table. The atmosphere rating reflects the fact it is a bistro, which I believe is a plus because it’s more relaxing. It is the perfect place for a romantic date, intimate anniversary, or special birthday. The candlelight picture is from a large birthday celebration and the atmosphere was perfect. Love the place.

Pay $30 to reserve a table? The charge wasn’t removed from bill; spend 45 minutes disputing charge with Visa because these people can’t run a restaurant.

EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE – not worth the price and aggravation and rude service.

The appetizers were just fabulous. I did not like my entrée. I had the ribeye steak. It wasn’t cooked properly. It had no char on it it was raw. I asked for medium rare. I should’ve sent it back. That’s my fault. In addition to that, it looks like Evanston added a 6% extra tax on alcohol. We’re not returning.

First time dining at Jilly’s Cafe for dinner and it’s a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. I tried their French version of Lobster Risotto and sadly, the lobster tail was overcooked to the point it stuck to the shell. This should not happen if lobster was cooked correctly. For a $50 entrée this is a silly mistake but would suggest quality check in the kitchen. The French Onion soup was also a bit small serving, served in cup size for $12. Other members in my party enjoyed their entrées which I’ve shared below. For dessert, the carrot cake was delicious. I do not recommend the lava cake, as it’s not a lava cake but chocolate cake. The “lava” was on the outside and a bit disappointing. Due to some other interesting menu items, I would like to return to give it another shot. The last suggestion for this restaurant is to offer better parking options. You have to park several blocks away and it’s paid parking only.

out. Started off with some amazing escargot sizzling in butter, the mussels in a white wine sauce was satisfactory. all of the appetizers were so delicious, especially the foie gras which was so good we got a second order. For the mains, we had their lobster risotto special, and the duck breast with a confit leg was fantastic, the sauce didn’t take away any of the flavor from the duck surprisingly. It was my first time having venison steak, the meat was firm and juicy. Don’t snooze on their desserts with everything being homemade, and my favorite was the creme brûlée being very creamy. Amazing spot to check out.

This place looked soooo cute on the outside and because of that it has been on our “to try” list forever. We finally went on a Thursday night and everything was just perfect. The place was quiet with 3-4 tables filled. We ordered the escargot, the trout, and the duck, and also got a free crème brûlée for dessert thanks to my husband’s NU wildcard discount. Every dish was tasty and delightful from start to finish. Price was decent with what we ordered but some of the specialty dishes certainly looked pricey. Overall, we had a very nice evening and will definitely be back.

Jilly’s Cafe has a true European feel to it, like a tiny little Parisian restaurant hidden somewhere on the smallest of streets. White tablecloth, but it’s not a super fancy place. I was here for brunch – they have a champagne brunch for $45 or you can eat a la carte. We opted for the latter, and had the breakfast trio and the crab Benedict. The food was absolutely delicious, and the prices were not obnoxious at all, however I wasn’t impressed by the plating: it was visually bland and lacked effort in my opinion. There was only one waiter and the small place filled up nicely, so he was working very hard to keep everyone satisfied. If you drive here, you can park on Central and just walk back here – there is no convenient parking on Green Bay.
