Came to SAL’S for the first time since moving to Gloucester. The service was great. We ordered the fried calamari to start, which was fantastic, along with meatballs, veal parm, penne with pink sauce, and garlic knots.
To our surprise, Chef Mike was hard at work. However, all of the entrees came out barely warm. Since we were the only ones there for a bit, we expected everything to be steaming hot. Not a deal breaker—just disappointing.
The meatballs were mushy inside and not that great. The veal parm, though, was impressive and came with almost a box of spaghetti—definitely a good portion for the price. The penne with pink sauce was good, and so were the garlic knots.
We also ordered a three-cheese white pizza to go, and it was fabulous! Perfect crust and great flavor. We will definitely be back to try every pizza they have.

We decided to give Sal’s a try after hearing new owners took over and gave this longtime Gloucester restaurant a much-needed overhaul. The difference is apparent as soon as one walks inside the dining room, which is now bright, airy and charming, and where customers pass a shiny Vespa scooter and spinning dessert case. Over the course of three visits, we found the service to be friendly and attentive —even on one Friday evening when the restaurant received an unexpected influx of large groups and kids. As for the food, the pasta dishes were flavorful, the thin hand tossed pizza crust was perfection, and portions were generous enough to have leftovers to take home. The homemade cannoli is the absolute best around, with a hard, crispy shell and perfectly sweet, gooey, ricotta filling. For those still on the fence: don’t let old reviews and outdated opinions keep you from discovering this local gem for yourself.

Food is quite good, and at reasonable prices I’ll give it a 5. Lunch menu has lots of choices, at decent prices. Lots of variety on the full menu. Service is especially friendly and good, thanks to new owners, I think.

We enjoyed our lunch! Our server, Courtnee greeted us when we walked and promptly came over to introduce herself and take our drink orders. A table of 5 – we had Stromboli, pizza, fried mushroom app, subs/onion rings, oh and I cannot forget the Bruschetta (it was sooooo good). Everything was delicious and we had leftovers. Sooooo with that being said, don’t believe everything you read on Facebook. We will be back!

We were stopping for the night and read the reviews so we gave it a shot. Our waitress was very attentive and nice. Food was great! The calzone was delish! The kids loved their spaghetti and my husband like the meatball sub. The only complaint is some of the mozzarella sticks didn’t have much cheese, but over all Great dinner, good sized portions and nice atmosphere.

I haven’t been here in years. After many great reviews regarding the new management , we decided to give it a go. For lunch we ordered a whole Sicilian pizza with pepperoni and a steak and cheese sub to go. They were both delicious and the pricing is very reasonable. The restaurant itself could definitely use a good renovation as it looks the same as it did 20 years ago. However we are still very happy.

Every order is consistently great! Food comes out in a timely manner. Prices are great. Staff very friendly. This is a spot to stop by in Gloucester. One of the few great eat spots we have. Keep up the great work!
