I am pleased to say that this is the best mom and pop pizza place in Springfield. I haven’t had a delicious pizza like this since I was a kid. I ordered one 16in and a 12 inch and it was altogether $29 which is not bad for the quality you get. It took them about an hour to prep. The bring the pizza out for you when you arrive. It fed three people and I will definitely be ordering from them from here on out. I highly recommend. Each bite on it’s own is perfect. It doesn’t cumble, the crust isn’t hard or too chewy.

My name is Mike Lawrence. I began coming to Joe’s when it was still located in a somewhat decrepit house located just one door west of the building it’s now in. The front porch on that old house was loose and would bounce or sag a bit when you walked across it and my joke to guests I took in there with me, was they should carefully walk around that bad spot when we left because we’d all be heavier from having eaten and would probably fall through.

My daughter lost her first baby tooth while eating Spaghetti at Joe’s. She’s now 43 so, yeah, we’ve been coming for decades; certainly since the days when Joe Porcasi ran it.

All the food was great and, through all those years, I NEVER heard anyone say anything bad about the food, the service, the price, nothing … until now.

I guess it’s to be expected, especially in the food industry. Over time people weary of doing the same job day after day, get tired of serving the same food to the same people. Pride in performance gives way to pet peeves and personal pity parties. Oh, I get it. I do.

The reviews I read now talking about bad service, bad food, no longer being able to dine in … none of that would EVER have been true back in the day. Back when we came and sat down, talked, laughed, took in the awesome smells, and delighted when the food came. Even standing up to get the door for someone exiting with boxes of pizzas and more to take home to loved ones. Man, those were the best of times.

When we first found Joes, we didn’t go to any other shop in town. Why, when you’d found the best, would you want to go anywhere else?

We had even talked, briefly, with the original owners about opening a franchise on the east side of Springfield. Wish we’d carried through with that instead of opening a restaurant. Ah, well.

I don’t know if it’s still there, but I donated a kitchen chef statue to Joe’s when Jeff bought the place. Used to be right up on the counter.

I live in St. Louis now but, from time to time, when I long for one of Joe’s pizzas, or meatball subs, or lasagnas … and it’s only a 200 mile round trip but, frankly, some of the reviews have kinda bummed me out about doing it.

Ah, well. We’ll see.

The pizza isn’t bad, unfortunately their marinara taste like ketchup it’s way too sweet. I ordered a chef salad by time I got home and looked at it I noticed that they had just given me some lettuce with three little pieces of tomato and the smallest thing of dressing nowhere near enough. The lettuce was like rubber so it was way too old to be serving most likely left over from the night before. So I didn’t even get the chef salad that I paid for on top of that I got rubbery lettuce. So I was a little disappointed, is probably the nicest thing I could say.
The cheese sticks are not cheese sticks. It’s a pizza pie with cheese on it and then they just cut it in strips. I’m guessing they don’t know what cheese sticks are.
I really didn’t like them asking for my card number over the phone. They couldn’t wait for me to get there to pay for it for some reason.
I highly doubt that I’ll be back for these reasons. I paid almost $40 for a pizza and what they call cheese sticks and a Styrofoam thing full of lettuce. In my opinion that was a total rip off.
All I can say is save your money go somewhere else.

Worst pizza experience ever. They said “one hour.” An hour and twenty minutes later, I’m waiting in the parking lot for the lone delivery person to bring the pizza to my car (customers aren’t allowed to enter the restaurant). She literally took my credit card back inside while I waited another 2-3 minutes for the receipt. Nice girl, but a ridiculous business model for pickup pizza. Still, I thought: maybe the pizza will be worth it. Nope – absolute garbage. Bland as could be, hardly any sausage and if that was extra cheese, I fret to imagine how much cheese a regular pizza would have. It even smelled funny; the sauce was sour. All three of us agreed it was awful pizza. This restaurant should be ashamed of itself.

Best pizza in Springfield. Love their meat sauce too. Unfortunately, staff was not very friendly. They seemed to argue over who was going to stand up to come unlock the door to take my order, like it was an inconvenience. It was really awkward. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, it was late on a Sunday so hopefully that’s all it was. I will still be returning.

Someone told me about Joe’s
And my wife wanted to do pizza and a movie on a friday…..
So we ordered!

It was our first time, so we decided not to order over the phone but go in and order.
Not….
The dining room was closed…
They have food runners bringing your pizza to your car… taking payment from the car also… cash or credit . However, they did a outstanding job, and that was the highlight of the whole experience.

We ordered one large pepperoni and one large sausage…
Both pizza with tax was 35 something….
But who cares about pricing when it comes to GOOD PIZZA.

So I thought….
Truthfully the pizza was a 2.5
The taste just wasn’t there…
Sauce makes a pizza in my opinion and Joe’s sauce didn’t have any taste what so ever.
I asked for extra sauce on my sausage pizza and still no flavor.
Not sure if we ordered on a bad night, but Joe’s just didn’t live up to the high expectations we had.
There was plenty of cars waiting for orders
So maybe it’s just me.
Being from Chicago, I’ve had some of the best pizza in the world . So my taste buds know goodness when we get it.
2.5 out of 5 stars

Just awful. Wouldn’t recommend to a friend nor an acquaintance, I’d probably lie and tell someone I don’t like that it was great.

First, the pizza wasn’t overcooked, it was burnt, even after asking for it slightly undercooked, second there was so much cheese that there wasn’t much of anything else to taste. If you like deep fried mozzarella sticks burnt then you might consider this mediocre, if you don’t you won’t enjoy.

I would give it zero stars but the server was actually a sweetheart, had she not been so wonderful, I would have complained and asked for my money back.

Lastly, the place was borderline nasty in an unclean aspect, despite the service, I think the health department needs to do an investigation to see what is happening here.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it got shut down in the not so distant future, if someone from the management sees this, take as the precursor warning for what may come if you don’t start to hold your operation to a higher standard.

Thoroughly dissapointed.

Long-time staple for pizza in Springfield. Local family operation. Reliable quality. And of course, delicious.

I have very fond memories of Joe’s over the years – even driving by brings a smile to my face. So the nostalgia coupled with the amazing pizza brings it to 5 stars for me. The service is hit-or-miss depending on who helps you but its really never been the friendliest place to order from. My most recent order was hot & ready in the 45 minutes quoted and the young man who brought the order out was very nice. While they make a solid pizza with good crust and a sweeter sauce, don’t pass over the lasagna – it is delicious!
