Absolutely love Griddle n Rice!! One of my FAVORITE places in philly to stop by and get matcha. Their hojicha is super good too!! Staff are very friendly even when it’s super busy. Food is delicious! I had their ayam geprek (smashed chicken rice) with the spiciest sambal, it really brought the heat. This place is very cozy, I came with a group of 4 and we just had to wait a little for people to be finished eating for a free table. Don’t be afraid to ask people for their table if it seems like they’re leaving! I also love the special matcha latte drinks that come out during the seasons. Parking is honestly not hard at all, lots of spaces especially in South Philly. Would definitely recommend to a lot if people, I will be back more often when in the area!

One of the best tasting breakfast of my life! We got the griddle and rice benedict, supreme sammy and creme brulee french toast. Everything tasted so fresh and made with love! The coffee selection was so hard to choose from but we got the tiramisu latte and pandan latte. The flavor of the espresso in the drinks was so rich and smooth. We will definitely be returning soon to try other items on the menu!

After being in Philly for three years, this place was a nice change and honestly had some of the best Indonesian food I’ve had in a long time. Their matcha is also so rich and creamy (matchamisu) , and it was sweet but not overpowering. The chicken was crispy and so juicy, and the sambal was fresh and you could really taste the flavour in the spices . I will definitely be coming back, I think I’ve found one of my new regular spots! It is a little small, so if it is crowded be prepared to wait for a seat or takeout, but it’s so worth the wait! The staff was also super friendly and really nice!

Came by on weekday for lunch and had no wait and was the only person dining in for a while. I got the breakfast platter and the fritter and rice were delicious. I was not too impressed with the chicken, but I will try the smashed chicken for next time instead. The portions were pretty generous as well. I also got the strawberry matcha was fantastic and I would definitely come back again for the matcha.

firstly, congratulations on opening your business. i hope with every customer experience or review, it could help improve the way it’s ran one way or another.
so, about our experience there. customer service was good and ordering process was easy. but the most annoying part is picking up the food & drinks. my partner has to get up and go to the counter 5 times to pick up the food. FIVE TIMES first for the fritters, then the drinks, then the sate then the iga then the geprek. it took about 20-25mins for the whole order to be received.
and as you know, with that system being in place food will be enjoyed in parts not as a whole. as it will get cold quick.
this could be avoided if a buzzer system is in place, or a warmer in the front, or just have all the things ready at once before calling out the customer to pick it up.
food wise, the bakwan was crispy but was kinda bland and pretty greasy. the iga has nice fatty parts but it does not fall off the bone. the ayam geprek is dry and stringy. the skin just wont tear, you have to rip it apart. (ended up using our hands to ease eating it) no crunch whatsoever too. the sate is tough. i just ended up swallowing it despite chewing for a while because it simply wont break down. but i think flavour wise for everything, it could be improved, it needs more seasoning for sure. i feel like only the sambal is flavourful and hit the right notes.
i have to give mad props to the drinks though, it was literally SO amazing. it was the perfect amount of sweetness and flavour. it was executed so well.
the interior of the place is quite aesthetic. love that too.
while i understand that the business is still new, i hope you take this as constructive criticism as a room for improvement so others will have a better experience dining at your place.
all the best!

This is my second time at Griddle & Rice and WOW. I’m so impressed with not only the food, but also the Matcha. Today I got the breakfast platter, which was unreal. It came with a chicken neck, which might scare most people away, but to me, it actually reminded me of my grandmother. She loved to gnaw on a bone. I also got the mango Matcha, which I waited to try until it was warm enough here in Philly. Now that it’s over 60°, I can report back with confidence that this Matcha is absolutely incredible. I can’t wait for my next outing here!

My fiance and I came here for lunch and based off the social media hype and high rating, we were excited to try this place as we’ve had indo food at other places before and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we did not have a good meal here. We ordered the breakfast platter and smashed chicken platter.
The chicken on the breakfast platter was very tough and dry. The other items were better but flavors overall were very one note. The smashed chicken was a little bit better but the sauce I ordered was overly greasy and missing an extra element besides the spice. We both lost our appetite halfway through the meal. My fiance vomited afterwards and I had stomach pains. Not sure what the issue was, we think it was the smashed chicken. Maybe it was a bad day but it was busy and people seemed like they enjoyed their food.

Very family forward little cafe stop, the food platters are phenomenal, but I’ll have to try them all in due time. Everything sounds delightful and delicious. Their signature coffee is amazing, so glad I tried it! The Indonesian food stays true to their cuisine which is lovely, really great flavors, people and atmosphere here! Will come here more!

South Philly just got a gem with Griddle and Rice, a brand new Indonesian-American fusion spot that completely blew me away. The food was nothing short of a 10/10.
The standout for me was the Smashed Chicken Rice—packed with bold, fiery spice that some might find intense, but for us, it was absolutely perfect. The heat paired with the depth of flavor left me instantly craving more.
The Supreme Sammie was another surprise hit, unexpectedly juicy and full of flavor, easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a while. On top of that, their baked goods are made fresh in-house daily, and you can really taste the difference.
Don’t miss their matcha and drink selection, which was refreshing and rounded out the meal beautifully.
Service was just as impressive as the food which was warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Griddle and Rice is a place I’ll definitely be coming back to again and again

It’s an unassuming spot in south Philly. You’re walking and out of nowhere, there it is. My friend and I went at noon on a Sunday, it was packed but honestly moved quickly. You order at the counter and then squeeze in the minimal seating. Even though at first I was thinking it was going to be a long process the line moved fast and people rotated out of their seats timely so my friend and I were able to get seats together with ease. We split the chicken congee and the breakfast sandwich and some vegetable fritters. Everything. Was soooo good. Could be considered one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city. The beef bacon is really what it’s about. And the chicken congee was amazing, so much going on, lots of flavors and so comforting. Overall 10/10 will be going back.
