Few taquerías in Dallas have the cult status of El Si Hay. The tiny white-and-green stand on Beckley Avenue has long been a Bishop Arts rite of passage, drawing weekend crowds for its cash-only tacos and ice-cold Jarritos. From the outside, it looks exactly like you want a street-side taco shack to look: hand-painted menu on the wall, a metal counter for stand-and-eat sessions, and the scent of grilled meat drifting onto the sidewalk.
On a recent visit I sampled two of the staples — the fajita (beef skirt) and bistec (beef steak) tacos. At $2.75 apiece, they’re still a value in today’s taco economy. The tortillas were warm and doubled up in classic street-taco style, but they lacked the pillowy freshness or light char that separates a good taco from a great one. The meats, while serviceable, didn’t quite sing: the fajita offered a faint smokiness but no real punch, and the bistec had a one-note chew rather than the beefy depth I was hoping for. Standard cilantro and onion toppings kept things clean, but a vibrant salsa might have helped lift the flavors (extra hot sauce runs 75¢).
There’s no denying El Si Hay’s appeal. The stand is charming, the menu straightforward, and for many locals it’s a nostalgic taste of Oak Cliff. But with Dallas’ taco scene evolving, from trompo specialists to boutique nixtamal tortillas, expectations have risen. Compared with newer competitors, El Si Hay feels more like a dependable neighborhood stop than a destination worthy of a special trip.
Bottom line: If you’re nearby and craving a quick, inexpensive taco with old-school vibes, El Si Hay still delivers. But if you’re coming from “miles and miles” away expecting a revelatory experience, you may leave thinking, as I did, that the legend slightly outshines the reality.

I buy here often because I like the taste but last times I’ve been here they are shiesty with the meat thought it was my luck or they where busy lol but a third fourth time I had to take a picture and write a review . not even a full teaspoon of meat lmao not even chipotle does this. Lmao if y’all don’t believe me ask for the tacos with cilantro and cebolla on the side. They try to mask and make the taco look fuller by adding it inside the taco. For the price of the tacos not coming back they are selling you tortillas at this point I’ll pass.

The best tacos and made to order elote that is delicious, everything is insanely fresh, flavorful and overall incredible. Only thing that would make it just a tad better( that last 0.5) was if the tortillas were made fresh to order but honestly in the little shack there is no space to do such, so they make do. 9.5/10. Recommend the elote on the side of the building and the green salsa which is more flavorful than being spicy, red if you are a fan of spicy. Can’t go wrong with any of the tacos. Staff is very friendly, but it’s just a shack with no seating and parking is sometimes difficult when it gets busy

What’s sets them apart is the variety of perfect seasoned meats with double tortilla. There’s always a line and it’s cash only. So be prepared to wait in line. Only down side, is there is no place for seating.

Tacos are greasy. Chicken had odd taste/texture, like it wasn’t chicken.. Pork was a little burned/had an odd texture as well. It is a little slow. I don’t understand why they serve everything in to go boxes.

I live on NJ, so coming to Texas, I needed to try authentic Mexican tacos, and after a lot of searching, we decided to try this place. Wow! I will never taste tacos the same. These were amazing! I ordered steak only, but my friend ordered 1 of each. And she loved them all, too. It’s such a tiny location, but it has the best flavor tacos in all my life. ❤️

El Si Hai Taqueria is a hidden gem that I recently discovered, and it did not disappoint. I tried the pastor and chicken fajita tacos, and both were perfectly cooked with tender and flavorful meat. The hot salsa was amazing and added just the right amount of heat to the tacos.
