I recently ordered the chicken and waffles at SHIMA and it was absolutely worth it! For $20, the portion was generous and beautifully presented. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, paired with a soft, fluffy waffle that had just the right amount of sweetness. Definitely one of the best chicken and waffle dishes I’ve had. I’ll be back for this again!

What a treat for ourselves on our last day in the Keys. This place was phenomenal! Talk about a culinary experience! I have eaten sushi all over the country and this was hands down the best I’ve had. From the over the top experience to the professionalism of the chef, every aspect of this meal from start to finish was superb. I didn’t want my food journey to end. The blue fin and the tuna nachos were definitely the highlight of the evening. I cannot wait to come back to the Keys again so we can come back to this one of a kind gem of a restaurant. Thank you to all that took care of us last night, we will not forget it.

Shima is hands down one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been to. I’ve visited multiple times now—always with friends or family whenever I’m in town—and it continues to impress every single time.
The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service is consistently excellent. You can tell they genuinely care about creating a great experience for their guests.
And the food? Absolutely astonishing. Everything is fresh, beautifully prepared, and packed with flavor. From sushi to hot dishes, it’s clear the quality and attention to detail are top-notch.
Shima has become a go-to spot for me, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. If you’re looking for an unforgettable Japanese dining experience, this is the place.

This sushi spot is a hidden gem in Islamorada. We go here every time we are in town. Rolls are big and the service is always great. I would 100% recommend checking it out.

This is an awesome ambience restaurant. Our server was good but food was ok. liked seaweed salad came with boat. We ordered boat for 1, liked plaza 88. We also ordered coconut shrimp sushi and it was good. Starter fried shrimp was good but for 5 shrimps $18? Waffle and chicken was not at all good, waffles were oily and chicken was like rubber texture. Shrimp fried rice had no taste. This place seems to be overpriced for decor and their presentation. Won’t spent money again for decor, I like good food.

Sharom was our server and was warm and attentive; he walked us through the menu and made such great recommendations that we felt confident in dealer’s choice, and were not disappointed!
We had dishes including the spicy tuna on crispy rice, spicy chili edamame, chutoro and wahu sashimi, grouper nigiri, and the royale maki roll. The fish is fresh and delicious, the rolls have amazing complimentary flavors. We were stuffed but had to have the bread pudding for dessert and it was to die for.
Another shoutout to Junior at the sushi bar for always killing it. We will be back and continue to spread the word about this place.

Shima is an excellent sushi restaurant to enjoy. We own a fine dining restaurant and are always looking for decent spots to patronize. All the sushi we got were top notch. We would definitely go back for that. The desserts need a little more influence by the chef for asian cuisine. I’ve never seen cheesecake at sushi restaurants in Asia. That’s kind of weird. Also we ordered the bao bun tacos with spider crab, my wife really enjoyed these. If you push your bao bun tacos harder advertising-wise you could generate faster and stronger business. This is the new hot thing. I would either take the wagyu off the menu or change how its prepared (slightly thicker cuts to temp). You get 5 small sticks with strips of meat cut so thin, you really can’t tell if you are eating wagyu or just regular beef. – my advice for the chef. Mochi on the dessert menu would be bomb.

From start to finish our experience was unlike anything we’ve ever had. When I tell you every single expectation we had was not only met, but over exceeded. The staff were friendly and helpful, but even better the comrade between them was like nothing we’d ever seen before. Everyone seemed to help each other out. We sat at the bar and got a front row seat to watching Daniel and the owner make the most beautiful rolls. The skill they both have is simply something that can’t be taught. My husband and I ordered two apps and two rolls each. After we finished our meals, we were both so amazed at how much we enjoyed our rolls, we ordered one more each. And just when we thought we couldn’t eat any more, we got the pleasure of speaking with the gentleman who makes their desserts. We left our dessert pick up to him. He brought out the most BEAUTIFUL bread pudding which tasted just as amazing as it looked. From start to finish our experience at Shima was the best we’ve had in our three years of coming down here!
