I can’t explain how good May’s is without comparing it to every other seafood restaurant I’ve ever attended.
This is the most top tier beautiful seafood gems I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience while visiting Maryland.
For appetizers we ordered hush puppies and the crab dip. Both were good, but I feel like the crab dip was mandatory to have in preparation of what they pull out of the kitchen.
The actual meal was the All Fried Seafood Platter (please check market prices before you order). Even with the total cost, it was more than worth it with how much food we got with everything deep fried to complete perfection. Will be easily coming back for their other dishes when I’m visiting Frederick again.

Love down home happy eating place. All kinds of seafood. Pricey. Steamed blue crab was dry but I am accustomed to juicy spicy boiled Louisiana crabs shrimp and crawfish. The crab soup was great.

You can tell that the seafood is fresh in this place since you arrive and smell everything. We tried the broiled seafood a d everything was so tender and fresh that almost melted in our mouths. The atmosphere is very beachy and lay back which we love. The service was outstanding! We definitely we will return to this restaurant!

Great atmosphere — a very local place, not touristy at all. I recommend sitting in the open-air area of the restaurant because it has a beachy vibe. The staff is amazing, and the service is excellent. There’s background music, and I suggest going on Thursdays and Mondays when they offer special options at half price.

My experience at May’s Seafood was noteworthy. We were able to get a seat within minutes. Our waitress was very attentive. As we poured over all of the options and prices, we needed a bit more time. Instead of forgetting us for 30 minutes like other restaurants, she came over very quickly to take our order. We got the soft shell crab sandwich, the shrimp platter, clam chowder, and hush puppies. Everything tasted amazing. I would come here again and recommend that others give May’s Seafood Restaurant.

Took my son here as he was visiting as he wanted some Blue Crabs.
We both got the Cream of Crab soup and it was pretty good. We then got the Imperial Skins ($21) as an app. It just came with 2 of them, but it was stacked with plenty of meat. We felt the taste was too bland though. Maybe it is just us, but we thought would have been better with some more Old Bay added. I did this with the 1/2 slice I left over at home and enjoyed it more. If you are from MD, you add Old Bay to everything
We got a dozen large crabs ($85 – market price at the time). This was what we were waiting for. We were quite happy with them and the seasoning was great. We had a couple left over and finished them a day later.
Parking is best in the back area as there is not that many up front. Outside seating is available and recommended if open and nice weather. If you are in Frederick area, this is where you go for Maryland Blue Crabs.

I’ve been going to May’s Seafood for as long as I can remember. Whether you’re getting steamed hardshells to go or eating at the restaurant, you’ll have awesome food and be greeted like family. I have long-since moved from Frederick, but anytime I go back home I make a pit stop at May’s for great food, drinks, and good times.

I recently dined at Mays and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. From the moment we arrived, the service felt low energy and somewhat condescending. While I observed the server being friendly and engaging with other tables, my husband and I felt overlooked. Each time we needed a drink refill, we had to ask, and it was disappointing that she never introduced herself or checked on us unless we called her over.
Additionally, my food order was incorrect, and I was left waiting without my meal while my husband received his. When the older manager or owner came to check on us, she acknowledged the issue but seemed more focused on defending the server rather than addressing our concerns. This made us feel somewhat unacknowledged during our visit.
As for the food, the frog legs I ordered (pictured below) were well-prepared but lacked seasoning and flavor. Overall, despite having given Mays multiple chances in the past, this experience did not meet my expectations, especially since the ownership changed a few years ago. If you are looking for a quality seafood restaurant, I would suggest considering other options. The atmosphere on the deck remains a highlight, but service improvements are needed for a better dining experience.

To be quite honest with you, the biggest juiciest, the best battered fried oysters I’ve had in Maryland in years. Happy to have found this gem. Skip the mac -n- cheese

Always great food and awesome staff! Happy to see they are back open for the season. Tried their Shrimp Po Boy and hush puppies and it was really good. The restaurant itself has a by the beach vibe. I have also had their crab legs and shrimp and they were good. Definitely check this local Frederick spot out if you haven’t already!
