I live locally but have never dined at the Boxcar until now.
The Restaurant is located across the street from an active Norfolk Southern Railroad Mainline but it is not visible from inside the restaurant except from an outdoor dining area in warmer months.
Upon entry into the vestibule of the restaurant, there is an option to head through a doorway into the bar area or head through another doorway into the dining seating area.
There is a wait to be seated sign at the entry point to the dining area.
A wall separates the dining area from the bar area so no “bar noise” is heard from the dining area.
The dining area was decorated with railroad related pictures and memorabilia.
We were greeted and seated almost immediately and orders taken.
I had a hot open face beef sandwich with gravy and mashed potatoes with a glass of ice water.
Meal was tasty but unfortunately was not heated sufficiently. Potatoes were only cold to lukewarm and sandwich was hot in the center but cool away from the center.
I decided not to make light of it to the server and ate it as it was but in retrospect, I should have requested that it be reheated.
At any rate, all else was pleasant with the experience and I will probably return again in the future.

the burgers are dry and u get shreaded bacon. the wings are great, cooked perfectly. the frys are fresh cut and amazing. service is ok. a lot of young girls just walking around acting like they dont k ow what to do.

What a great place to have lunch. The restaurant is right next to the main lines and has lots of trains. Sadly you can’t see them from inside, but you can hear them rumble by. There is a small outdoor patio for nice weather. Tiffany was super friendly and checked on me several times. The salad was very fresh and had several items on top of it. The Hobo Burger is a little spicy and well worth ordering. Their fries were fresh cuts and were spot on. The restaurant is very clean and the bathroom looked freshly remodeled. The inside is train themed and has lots of great pictures everywhere. The menu is very large and it was really hard to pick one thing. I am excited to go back and try something different next time.

2/23/24 Fish dinner was so/so. Nice big pc of fish. Haluski was homemade noodles but overcooked to mush, cabbage was tender-crisp. Mac n cheese was not good, some noodles burnt n hard, stewed toms were great, slaw was good n so was homemade roll.
9/23 Portion size is well worth the money. Salad n sandwich were huge. Food tasted great. Service was great. Diningroom was clean and nice.

Specializes in Burgers but seems like everything is good there. Family run business, clean, attentive. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The establishment also has a bar. Will visit again. Overall, Grade A

Overall, it’s a good place to eat. We ordered the crispy buffalo chicken sandwich and wrap. It didn’t taste anything like a buffalo mixture. Their burgers are a lot better.

Highly recommend! The smash burgers are huge and absolutely delicious. The restaurant is cozy, nicely decorated, and very clean. We would definitely return if we are in the area again.

Not at all impressed with the service or the food. The food was over cooked as well as being processed food. The Mac and cheese was Kraft and that was dried out. The wait staff had us seated but we waited 15 min to order and it was now 4 after 8 so we couldn’t order pizza. Which was what we went for. Bacon on my BLT was so dark and brittle I couldn’t get it. Not returning. The dish washer was eating at a table next to us and gave me better service than the server.
