When founders Jeremy Mandrell and Anne Ng set out from the Bay Area to San Antonio, they thought they’d left their baking careers for good. Then they started making and selling pastries at a farmer’s market on the weekends for the love of it and quickly developed a fan base. When they met local entrepreneur Charlie Biedenharn, that stand became Bakery Lorraine, an artisanal bakery that was named one the country’s best new bakeries. Since then, they’ve been recognized as one of the Top 100 Bakeries in the US by Food and Wine and nominated for best pastry chefs by the James Beard Foundation. Our philosophy is simple – we make fresh pastries that reflect our respect for the ingredients and the technique of our craft. Everyday.
Bakeshop with a patio serving sandwiches & an array of cookies, tarts & muffins, plus coffee.

I was able to park for free (see parking comments), and it was a short walk the bakery. Thankfully, it was a cool morning. I entered, found the Bakery very clean, tables bussed, and went over to the bakery party case and ordering line. We were promptly greeted, advised it was our first time, and told how the process works. After a few minutes we opted to not order any pastries, and ordered hot dishes.
As you can see in the pictures, we ordered the quiche, and breakfast plate, along with latte and water. We found a table, and began our business talk. About 20 minutes later, our food was brought to our table. The presentation was nice.
Note, I gave the food 4 stars because the, while everything tasted good, my dish – breakfast plate – was a little cool, and the diced potatoes were a little under cooked.
We both had the opportunity to use the restrooms on premises, and found them to be very clean, and gender neutral.
Overall, we had a good experience, and meeting. I’m guessing because it was a Wednesday morning around 9:30 am, business was light, and thus there wasn’t that much noise in the Bakery / café. Business did pick up around 10:30’ish.
I will be back to this area to explore other businesses, and will likely revisit this bakery as their food is tasty, even though my dish was cool.
I hope that if you decide to visit this restaurant that your experience is as good or better than mine.
I met with a friend to catch up. I got a vanilla latte with oat milk and a cheese danish. The latte was really good & the danish was outstanding! My friend also enjoyed his coffee & cheese danish. He said the atmosphere reminded him of some of the little coffee shops he had visited in Europe! When we arrived at 9am on Friday, there were only a handful of seats taken. By the time we finally left at about 10:30am, all of the seats except a few were taken! Bakery Lorraine’s is a very popular location!

While the coffee was meh, the food was much better. The absolute best part of it was the decor. They have a cute walk up window as I was told that lines go around the building.
No line at 7 AM on a Sunday.
